Bobo didn't have to make a recruiting pitch for him. The kid decided long ago he was going wherever Bobo is at. Like I said, others may disagree, but having a close family friend commit is entirely different then recruiting someone you've never met imo.

What you just described is the highest pinnacle of "recruiting".

Developing personal relationships is the very definition of recruiting

I get your point but that's essentially how we got Marlon Davidson and no one complained. I don't really care how you get talented players here, just get them here. Leverage what you have

Weird thing to argue about but do your thing, man

I’m not stoked on Bobo or Friend, if I’m being honest. Not necessarily against them either. Harsin knows Bobo well and likes what he has seen. I’m sure he believes at this stage of Bobo’s career that he can teach his concepts well. Seems like a solid play caller. We’ll just have to see

Friend’s recruiting contains some diamonds but it’s a pretty mixed bag. And I haven’t been impressed with the product but he’s on the younger end of the coaching spectrum and clearly believes he’s a good fit with Bobo

So we can depend on him bringing in 5* players that are family friends every year? I guess in that case sign me up

I asked about which other big time recruits he pulled at places other than UGA anyway.. Last I checked a '22 QB doesn't fit that. I'm looking for names that signed with him at CU and USCe.

I don't like the Bobo hire, but Will Friend coming as a package deal makes it much better.

Bobo has coached really good offenses at UGA and Colorado State (Friend was OC/OL at CSU).

Both will recruit their asses off in the southeast, which is needed obviously.

Mason is a homerun. Danielson is a young stud with heavy recruiting ties out west (specifically California).

This staff is shaking out nicely. Look forward to seeing what they pull off the recruiting trail in this final month.

I don't have a problem with either hire. I am tired of having coaches with an "Auburn connection". I want Harsin to bring in who thinks will benefit him the most.

Will Friend is a good recruiter at OL with questionable development skills. This might actually work out if we're also bringing the Boise OL coach (Bedell) as an assistant as expected. Boise fans complained about his recruiting, however, the performance/coaching on the OL seemed to be good.

Personal relationship is one thing.. Knowing a kid since he was 7 years old and him developing into a 5* player is as rare as it gets.

Yeah. Our campus is surrounded by elite lineman and RB talent. Why not leverage that? Going to a Mike Leach system would never work.

How would we get Friend and Bedell?

Seems like it’s one or the other

He was listed as the recruiter for Trenton Thompson, Sony Michel, Matt Stafford, Aaron Murray, and Terry Godwin. I'm not saying he is the best recruiter ever but those aren't bad names

Just saw you said other than UGA

Bedell would be "TE" coach. Which means that he could also assist in OL coaching.

or Friend will be TE coach and Bedell will be official OLine coach. As long as both are on staff it will work though

So can we soon count Gunner Stockton as a ‘22 commit?

You're jumping all over the place. Bobo was only at USCe for ~1 season (at the tail-end of Muschamp's time there btw), and the 2022 5-star he pulled there counts as "recruiting" regardless of what you want to describe it as. Asking what elite talent he pulled to Colorado State is a joke. Auburn already has inroads and sells itself to Georgia recruits; an elite recruit from Georgia is never going to go to Colorado State regardless of who the coach/recruiter there is.

Mike Bobo has legitimate pull in the state of Georgia which he proved over the entirety of his career on Georgia's staff wherein he whipped us for basically every elite recruit we tried to get. At Auburn, he would be able to leverage that recruiting ability due to location/history/prestige/etc. Kinda like how Rodney Garner could for the same reason.

Don’t shoot the messenger but JGT said he expected Wanya Morris to be in the portal a little bit ago.
