Anyone have a 247 sub? Caldwell had an article on it about recruiting. Why Harsin didn't work at Auburn and Issues with Recruiting

ETA: just listened to it. I assume it some of the same things in the article.

Harsin and Mason had an interaction where Mason said “I’ve been a head coach in this league longer than you have.” Harsin replied, “Oh, you mean at Vanderbilt?”

Damn son!

A lot of that sounds like cause to fire.....we need to work on our contracts so we are not on the hook for all that $$.
Put the Buyout in clauses. Their Buyout is full as long as they are doing their job as far as winning, recruiting, and showing signs of improvement. Otherwise it drops to firable with cause depending on how bad they are doing. In turn they get full control of everything coaching decisions related.

Good listen. Absolutely infuriating both Gus and Harsin refused to physically visit recruits.

Well, if this is true, it would go a lot further in explaining why Gus could absolutely not recruit any quality OL.
I never thought the offensive scheme was the whole reason, although I'm sure it was part of it.

It’s not true. Gus visited often and used up his visits.

also as someone else mentioned here, they did say that harsin would attend his sons games on friday nights instead of recruit. i don't hate that and understand. but you have to be willing to make some compromises to win in the SEC

I can respect making time for your kids and being there for their events, but you could at least make the effort to send the player and his coach a text/email/phone call and say "Hey my son has a game tonight, and I want to be there for him, but I'm really interested in seeing you play. Can you send me the game footage/highlights and I am going to be sure to meet you in person at a future game."
Would that be too difficult? Also, you could send his position coach to that particular game in person and give that guy a chance to lay some groundwork.

Sound like the dumb/lazy rumors are true. Plus he is a West Coast guy who brought in cronies, and none of them had any crootin' contacts in the Southeast. That in itself is a deal-killer.

So he really did just suck at convincing OL to play in his system. OK, I can buy that.
When your main competitors are pipelining them to the NFL and you can't get 5 top quality OL to put on the field (never mind backups), there is a problem somewhere.

To Jang’s point, Gus & staff were constantly visiting. Top guys just went elsewhere. I really think he would have cleaned up the poor HS OL recruiting in the portal era had he stayed. Think of all the successful transfers we had under the previous rules. Dunn, James, Golson, Driscoll, and to a lesser extent Council, Zierer, Bell.

I think top linemen didn't see Gus' offense as a style to get them ready for the NFL. Plus players got very little development under him as a HC.

Yep. Unfortunately.

He also
-had underwhelming recruiters as OL coach.
-He had the NFL spooked post GRob thus related hit pieces.
-He failed to materialize anything out of Calvin Ashley
- He also micromanaged.

However he did visit and his work ethic was never in question- especially during the NSD peak season. He tried with Wanya Morris, Broderick Jones, Trey Hill, etc

Half of these dipshit “Auburn” fans wanted Harsin to win 10 and then give us the middle finger.

Guilty as charged. I wanted the guy to succeed just like I want every Auburn coach to succeed. I gave him the benefit of every doubt and I was 100% wrong about his coaching.

Jang my friend I told you about 4-5 weeks ago about the man, his family and what was going down.
Auburn used the leverage (information from past DC, OC and players), personal family issues to negotiate the buy out. They also respected Harsin for kept everything on the downlow.
The BOT is aligned as never before. Auburn is who handled it with class!

Word is the buyout was $12 million, so $3.8 million less than what he was owed.

I love it when Auburn fans try to lecture over class.
