Question regarding OL play

Its been repeated, and rightfully so, the interior of the line struggled with stunts and twists.
Two of the three played for years together at USF.
Our center is supposed to be well schooled and he is the one calling blocking assignments at the line.
Our defense in practice the last year certainly showed them these same looks many times.
So why the confusion? Im not expecting them to blow holes in the line, but how can you keep missing who you are supposed to at least stand in front of to prevent 11 tackles for a loss.
The good news is, if they are telling OL recruits they can play early.....they aint lying

Baylor’s DC stated, they spent a bundle to get them, then spent all fall putting together a plan to defeat Auburn.
This Auburn mindset has a condition at Auburn since Gus. But seldom has a DC put together a dedicated scheme designed to beat the opening opponent.

Understand that. But Golesh talked about preparing for opponents in this new era and they look at the opponent's film, the coaches film from their previous stop, the players from their previous stop.
Just seems our OL should have had better awareness.
I will say some of those sacks were "coverage" sacks or Brown just did not find open receivers, he held the ball for quite a while many times.
The issue I saw was the lack of being able to run the ball. Course part of that goes back to the fact we were not stretching the field much in the passing game.
Course thats why the coaches make the big bucks, lets hope they earn it.

The left guard was particularly helpless. I remember Plazz getting a lot of love in the off-season. Might be time to see what he can do.

That sounds a lot like coping.

I took it as a skill issue and Baylor just being better than us on the interior. It sounded like they knew their assignments but were just too slow. Am I off the mark?

Our tackles did great last game which is a surprise in itself. It is the tackles, not the guards with a the most tape of getting turnstiled.

Offensive lines used to develop within a program. Bring in 18 year old. Maybe they graduate HS early, go through spring/fall/winter workouts/ second spring/fall/workout/third spring/start as RS sophomore in fall. We all knew their names and hometowns back then.
Now with NIL/portal, it’s develop now or leave- from player and coach point of view.
It must be really bad in G5. Any player with decent tape will move up to P4.

Outside of QB, they are the most important group on the field. And there just isn't enough of them. You can't stack a whole roster full anymore.
