He also came into a much worse situation than Malzahn did.

I would disagree with this. Malzahn came in after the worst season in Auburn history, multiple felonies, murders, etc.

And multiple top recruiting classes on the roster. The talent was there.

Chiz was a great recruiter. Let’s no pretend Gus didn’t have talent available

Let me just say that I fully believe Gus is a good man and a great representative for the University. He is.

Not sure about Dye's % being higher if it was 12 games, but he was more consistent season to season.

Worse situation?? We didn't even play football in 2012. If we did, I sure didn't see it on the field....

But I can see how one could say it was a worse situation for Dye considering the later Barfield years and over all talent level.

Didnt we lose damn near all our best players from his first few classes or some shite?

And didnt Chiz have a large attrition rate as well?

What Bama has done is part of it... UGA moving in the right direction is part of it... Two good years out of 7 is part of it. He is a weird dude is part of it. Our stupid ex-prez giving him a 49 million dollar contract with a 75% buyout is part of it.

san jose st 2015
We were tied for approximately 7 minutes in the first quarter. After that SJSU never had the ball with a chance to tie for the rest of the game. We won by 2 TDs.

southern miss 2018
Never trailed in this game, and led by double digits from midway through the 2nd quarter til early in the 4th, when USM pulled within 8. Their next three posessions netted minus-9 yards, by which time we were back up by 11 again, which is how it ended.

Tulane 2019
They had one redzone possession the entire game. One. We led from early in the 2nd and won by 18.

So that's two games (Jax State and Mercer) that legitimately fit your description. Not exactly "every year". Sure, we looked like steamed dogshit in all of them (offensively, anyway) but do say we 'almost lost' any of them is a stretch.

I keep seeing people saying that they've been broken by Gus

People who say that are idiots. 1998 and 2012 were "broken" years. Gus hasn't done any of that. I get it, though, that people are frustrated with 8-5.

It had to do with severity underperforming. We've lost 4 games every season since 2013. Even 2017, the year we beat bama and uga and then had to watch both of them play in the natty bc Gus had the team underporming earlier in the season. There's logic behind it. He's an offensive mastermind but we have only had one elite offensive player since 2014. We haven't had an elite qb since 2014. Malzahn hasn't done anything credible since 2013. His first year as head coach. Rivalry victories hardly count as that shouldn't be the measuring stick for our program.

Not sure I'm buying this anymore. Yes he created a new, creative offense, but a mastermind would be able to keep innovating.

Forums and radio talk shows definitely seem to attract fans with more 'extreme' views and opinions.

Yeah I think the football haters need to cool it. Gus made the current defensive staff and the recruits. He made a Top 10 defense.

He’s all over the place at times, but the offense will grow. This is a year you can’t really hate on him, unless he completely blows it. He’s put together a potential championship team. He recruited and has an NFL defensive line. We shouldn’t get blown out by anyone.

Bama has defensive issues, LSU has yet to run the ball, UGA hasn’t played anyone. TAMU, MSU, UF will tell us what we need to know.

Bama being good isn't an excuse for our struggles.

10 years ago Clemson wasn't shite. Dabo built them into a powerhouse. We need our Dabo and it ain't Gus...

You cannot be serious.

Yeah, we need to catch lightning in a douchey arse bottle. In a state with zero, and I mean fricking zero, competition. Then, cheat our dicks off while our shitty instate rivals are toiling in mediocrity.

Oh, what? What's that you say? We share a state with Alabama, not USCe?

Sorry Dabo triggered you... I agree that he is a douchebag, but the cheating thing is ridiculous. Everybody that is competitive cheats.

We need our next Pat Dye to come in and beat Saban into retirement like Dye did with Bryant. I don't think that guy is Gus.

And once again... Bama being good isn't an excuse for our failures.
