Each one gets their own QB. Kinda like how we rotated 3 QBs against Clemson that year.

The Coxcat with spinning pirouette action.

Notre Dame Box.

Unbalanced line.

I know we are mediocre, but we had to move on from Gus.

Time will tell IF we need to let Hugh play more golf.

Just when I was letting myself start to feel a little excitement about the season, this craptastic plan is made public. This screams JABA and I guess it is comforting to know now instead of being disappointed on the 29th. Has 2003 Nallsminger vibes all over it.

What's next

darts and an open playbook?

Someone school me... But I thought play calling involved certain nuanced sequences leveraged to create a mismatch, misdirection, or favor for your team?

Anyone remember the "Offense by Committee" years under Dye from 1986 to 1990?

Lot's of Delay of Game and Illegal Participation penalties. Got worse with time, especially when Dye didn't have an RB that could take over the game.

It’s about defense. Defense is coming back around in this age of high octane offenses.

Did some looking. Auburn vs. 2024 National Champ Ohio State.

Total Offense:
Auburn was one spot ahead of OSU

Total Passing:
Auburn was one spot ahead of OSU

Total Rushing:
Auburn was two spots behind OSU

Total Defense:
Auburn was 30 spots behind OSU

Defense really is the difference. That will tell the tale.

Statistically auburns defense wasn’t that bad last year… top 15 in YPP among P5 teams. It was turnover margin and special teams that were killers.

this was the first time i couldnt control my language in JHS. I always curb the language due to respect for kids etc, but when that shite happened. the curse words flowed uncontrollably. I apologized profusely to everyone around me, but they wouldnt have any of it. They said it was completely justified

Do yall think this unusual or just an Auburn thing with multiple people working on the game plans/play calls?

This happens almost everywhere high school/college/pro.

So think of it sort of like Nix is the run game coordinator, Austin is the pass game coordinator. Freeze is the “play caller”.

What do yall think the assistant coaches up on the booth are up there for? They track everything. When we go 4 wide they track what the defense does, how the line up. Then we throw 12 personnel out and they track what the defense does. You guys would be shocked how much communication goes on between series. Most informational about what the other side of the ball is doing in each situation. Plus they already have an idea of what they are going to see. So a play call goes in, coach in the booth says yes we got the look we expected, run the play, if not then change the play to the defensive alignment.

A smart person would understand the angst of every Auburn fan when it comes to who is calling the plays.

It was a constant controversy under Malzahn and now its happening under Freeze.

When you have a head coach who made his career calling plays, then suddenly he gets to Auburn and decides to delegate, fans are going to have a knee jerk reaction and be pissed for the blame shifting and lack of accountability. Plus, his ability to call the plays is one of the main reason he was hired in he first place.

Too many chefs in the kitchen.

Here we go again.

A smart person would know this happens at every level and almost all coaching staffs.

I’m not doing this bullshite back and forth with you so frick off.

I don't care who calls the plays, I just want the offense to stop looking like a chaotic wreck on the field. It's great we've got better receivers, but when you have them running around in circles like a flag football game and the ball continually goes where the receiver isn't, it's hard to keep blaming the talent.

We'll see how that goes this season. The playcalling drama, I just see as Freeze's continued tendency to shift responsibilities people assume he was hired for to his assistants.

In a vacuum your post is probably mostly correct.

However, the context of AU's struggles in this area are well-documented and the wailing of gnashing of teeth is understandable, if not expected.

Don’t agree. Sure there are coaches that focus on different things and lots of chatter between plays, but successful teams have an OC that calls the plays, calls the game. Not this guy will make the call on 1st down, this guy will call third down. You think Gus won’t be calling every play at FSU this year?

For starters let's leave smart out of it...

... because a smart person wouldn't be habitually arguing with an imbecile (not every day).

And secondly I thought the reason we got Hugh Freeze is because he's an offensive guru?
