I get the feeling Gus is here to stay for another year, so I’m going to get back into the spirit of thinking Auburn can win every game.

What do we need to do to beat UGA?

Biggest concern I have - and I mean this seriously - is our defensive line’s inability to stuff the run. We have the talent to do so but allowed A&M to gash us too many times. Swift and Holyfield will punish us way worse than Williams if they get out into space.

So for us to win...

1) Win the line of scrimmage on defense. Put pressure on Fromm to win. We rattled him last year and forced a lot of bad plays.

2) Stidham has to make quick reads and get the ball out fast. This is how we mounted the comeback against A&M. He took three steps and threw. We won’t have the running game, so we’ll need the passing game to be quick and efficient.

3) Solid special teams coverage. I don’t think we need a return for a touchdown or a blocked punt/FG, but we have to control their field position. They have speedy, athletic returners.

We do those three things, we’ll be in position to win come 4th quarter.

*This is a posibarner, serious thread. Only strategies to win allowed!

I honestly haven't watched UGA enough to know, but I would begin by looking at what LSU did to best them. How's their defense? If we can shutdown their offense to start, all the other pieces might fall into place.

Their offense doesn’t seem to be as dynamic as last year. Only additional threat they have is Holyfield who is a bruising runner. I like our front 7 (if they can get back to form and play a good game) to handle him though.

I haven’t seen as much downfield passing as I saw last year. LSU did a good job in the secondary this year but their d line rattled Fromm. Unfortunately with it being in Athens, we won’t get the crowd as a factor.

Additional Posibarner Thought:

Last year we were burned by the football gods after beating two #1 teams in a row only to win zero hardware and finish the season on a low note. This year we can beat Georgia to give them two losses and Alabama. Then Georgia beats Alabama in Atlanta creating the possibility that no SEC goes to the CFP.

Hey, no one expected the shenanigans of last year either.

Edit: I’m a bit worried about myself. Been in a hot bath for the last 45 minutes trying to kill a cold. These feel like legit possibilities. I may be dehydrated....

In 2016 all we needed to do was run the ball to win the game and we threw.

In 2018 I expect us to run the ball since we need to pass it to win the game.

It would help our defense out if the offense could stay on the field longer than a minute each possession.

After watching everyone left on our schedule this year...we will be lucky to beat Liberty...I think GA and bammer will run all over us...

Ga is definitely not as good as people think.

If we win the T.O.P. as well as the turnover battle while having a good kicking game we can squeak this one out.

Since it is obvious that we can't run the ball, I think we can shorten up the game with short passes while taking a few deep shots. If we can execute and connect on these, we win.

As far as our defense goes, we just need to disguise blitzes and mix zone and man coverages while keeping them behind the chains.

Amen.

The defense, even when it yields a lot between the twenties, is pretty stingy when it comes to giving up points. I also think UGA seems somewhat sloppy when it comes to turnovers.

If AU can sustain drives --- or finally hit some big plays, the defense could probably hold up pretty well.

But all of those 3 and outs will make it a long game for the D.

Yeah, the defense has to play better. We have seen them have good performances before, but since the State Game, they have been off. Have to shut down the middle of the field both running and middle/deep passes so they don't get Nauta going. Obviously, we can't let them run at the perimeter like they did in ATL against us late in the game. Seems to be the weakness of this defense.

Offensively, well I just dont see much. But if we are going to be better, i agree, it has to look more like the last 7 mins of the aTm game, rather than the last 6 games. Use the short/intermediate passing game to setup the run/screen game. We have to get the strength of this offense going and that is our outside guys. The power run game is not what this team is setup to be good at. Hopefully someone lets Gus know that before Saturday.

I'm trying to be positive, but I've just seen this same movie before. It's just very frustrating going into games like this where we, the fans, know what the teams strengths seem to be, but the coaching staff installs a gameplan that completely abandons those strengths.

ETA: On Special Teams, we can't fair catch punts inside our own 5 yard line. We're looking at you Ryan Davis. Other than that and repeatedly sending out our young kicker for mile-long field goals, I've been pleasantly surprised with the play of that group.

I have known Chip for a long time. This is not his offense. The plays he is calling are within a Malzahn-defined box, which limits things in more than one way.

Nothing the board doesn’t already know, but watch the numbers he puts up after he leaves AU. The sad thing is, he may never have a QB as good as JS again.

Defense played great the second half. We need a 4 qt effort. Offense, everyone in the planet knows we need to go HUNH, 4 wide, let Stidham sling it.

Instead we will play the same way we have all year.

Our D has to get back to being able to stuff the run. Holyfield is really good and really fights for yards after contact. Yesterday we missed quite a few tackles that led to a ton of yards against us. We have to tackle like we did early against Washington and LSU.

We have to at least not lose the turnover battle.

Receivers have to make some plays to help Stidham out and not drop any passes. Oline has to protect well (we will have to win throwing).

UGA isnt as good as last year. They didnt look good yesterday either. That Kentucky team is not any good. Look at all their close games this year against bad teams. They could easily have a losing record.

They will be big favorites, probably a couple of TDs, but i think we give them a good game.
We may even be capable of beating them if we get/make a couple of breaks for ourselves. Something we havent done all year until that int yesterday.
