I remember when Kiffin had been at Ole Miss for maybe a year or two, and Freeze had just landed at Auburn. We were all speculating whether or not the Kiffin portal strategy would work better or the Freeze relationship-based high school strategy. Guess we found out which one.

Freeze, for all his detriments, can get a kid to sign with the program like few others. He cannot, however, coach them when they get here.

You can over pay to get any recruit to sign. It isnt a magical skill. Freeze is incompetent and is not qualified to be in that position. He is a relic from an era that rewarded nepotism and good Ole boy behavior. NIL/rev sharing is introducing job performance metrics that everyone else deals with to the coaching profession, and the old guard doesn't like it.
