I don't know what to think about this roster. If I had more faith in the new offensive line I could convince myself we will be good. The running game could be elite with a well coached line, and that will open up the passing game. I expect defense to be competent if not great under DJ.
I'm sure this will never happen, but they should go back to forcing kids to sit a year when transferring unless they move up from G5. That might slow the chaos down and put some agents out of business.
I think what we are seeing, with the Wild West one year deals, is that more and more teams will be bringing in experienced players instead of as many unproven high schoolers.
It’s going to be a series of revolving doors where teams change drastically from year to year.
These guys we got from USF? Most of them would be at a P4 school if they didn’t sign with Auburn. They may not have the stars, but they’ve got experience.
I can see a future where stars are replaced by number of games played. They’re battle tested and have been in weight training for at least a year, growing into college bodies. More easily a plug and play model.

Agreed unfortunately. They killed the game we loved.

They aren’t going to make kids sit anymore, the NCAA doesn’t want those legal issues. Besides Duke literally gave people a way forward with how they structured Meshahs deal. He wanted to leave but can’t.

My favorite Christmas movie Young Grasshopper. Young Grasshopper is from the old Kung Fu movie from the 70's with David Carridine (sp). I know that was way before your time.

Did I miss something and Mensah isn’t going to Miami?

I’m all for doing contracts with a huge buyout. That refills the war chest to grab someone just as good from the portal to replace them.

So do I brother, so do I.

We could do something like professional soccer and enact transfer fees. It would reward teams for developing players and making them valuable. In theory the transfer fee is negotiable, and it would require permission from the originating school for the kid to transfer. Transfer fees are not part of the kid’s NIL or rev share. Just an additional expense if you want to bring a kid in. In soccer they rarely discuss a player’s salary, and rather you get an idea about how valuable a player is by looking at their transfer fee the last time they switched clubs.
Transfer fees can go as far as being divided up between every professional and youth club that ever developed that player. This is only done with a small percentage of the fee, but for big transfers, like Mbappe, even his youth team suddenly got a windfall of cash. Imagine the landscape of high school football if they could make money on every transfer of a player they coached.

The soccer model is how I expect recruiting to turn towards now as well. Only the elite will get recruited at the highest level and everyone else will start out in lower divisions and transfer up as they prove themselves. Transfer fee's will be how teams at the bottom make enough money to stay afloat

The issue with this is that when the kid enters the portal, he is out of school and no longer there. He basically drops out of school in the hopes that someone will pick them back up or be accepted back into the school if it fails.

3* out of HS. I believe he will have 4 years of eligibility left.
ETA: maybe 3 years left, didn't have stats I could see but looks like he may have played this year.

We can take an inexpensive look at him for a year, see what we have, then decide what to do after that. These are as smart a moves as breaking the bank for a "proven" guy like last year, maybe smarter

If tweet fails to load, click here. Don’t know where the stats are from, but if true, that’s an impressive ratio for a true freshman, no matter what level you play.
