I'd have to go back and check, but I think he hurt in during preseason camp and then hurt it again in either the first or second game. He tried to play with a brace on it, but couldn't do as much at that point.

Over here are the NIL checks, and diamond chains

His play wasn't phenomenal even before that happened and Melendez was starting to get more minutes as well. Definitely want to keep him, he still has great potential but needs to take a step beyond being able to just spy a mobile QB, but I'd be shocked if Atkins and Melendez weren't starters next year.
I think he still suffers from a pulled hamstring when he tripped over his jock when MIlroe faked him out of it during that touchdown run. Hopefully he took some geometry classes on angles.

Didn’t USCe have an even worse OL than we did?

You'll see from time to time that new means better and the last player was worst of all time.

Blockton was 14th on the team in tackles with 18.
4th amongst the 4 starting linemen.
Amaris only had 14 tackles all season.
The shame is, when they see their worth in the portal versus what Auburn offered, some will probably have to much pride to swallow and return.
Lot of quality in the corners we have on the team and some far cheaper and just as good in the portal as million dollar man Crawford.
Fellas just keep your powder dry and wait for the portal to open, its going to be all good.

This is probably a stupid question but why do they need to enter the portal in order to know their potential worth? I would think that their agent would already have a feel for it.

LSU said similar shite about Atkins I bet.
Spin it!

Honestly, their agents probably do know. They have probably had conversations with Golesh. Their production probably doesn’t match what Freeze was paying them. Golesh probably wanted to pay them what they’re worth. Their egos think they can get Freeze money on the open market.

They can receive formal offers. Some have a feel, some have a way overinflated feel. It’s been pretty common for kids to hit the portal and the portal offers are less than what they were getting.

I understand that but, if their agents know, at least roughly, what they're worth, I'd expect fewer players to choose to "test the water". My questions aren't Auburn specific. Nico Lamaleava comes to mind.
ETA: I assume that human nature comes into play and that some are just jaded over a reduction in pay, even if it's still as much or more than they would find elsewhere.

I have to think their agents are amateurish in knowledge and skill and operate on rumor "yeah man you should see the money being passed around now. My cousin was second string LB at Texas State and just got a new car at Tech!"

This is most likely correct. Hell, a lot of them have still have family members pretending to be sports agents.

I don’t think any of us know much about the NIL process yet. Seems like a crap shoot in a lot of ways. The portal
Is just so uninteresting to me.
I stated early on I expected 30ish to leave. I still stand by that. So we will have around 45 new players on the roster including transfers and high school players

Some will leave bc they are not developing or lack D1 talent. This is probably the biggest group which includes a walkon.
Some with talent will test the market to see what they might can get. I can’t blame people for looking around. The grass may or may not be greener for them.
We will get some guys from the portal. Some will be FCS/G5 guys who have been productive and want a shot at the show(SEC). Some will be guys looking for more playing time or a better scheme fit from P4 schools. Some might want to be closer to home.
I’ll wait until things become clearer before I judge our roster.

And if these guys go get better money what does that tell you? I’m sorry but we’re in the territory of losses we weren’t expecting for sure. Everyday we lose another starter he’s gonna have to recruit that much harder to fill the talent gap.

Some will come back to AU. The market won’t be what they think it is.
Brockton, Crawford, and Amaris are the only ones that come as a surprise. The others like Lee and Woodyard are on their last season and want to cash in I’m sure in case the NFL doesn’t value them.
The offensive guys I’m sure are over paid for their production so not sure how to judge what they are doing.
That’s the part I hate about college football now. We love the student athletes but it’s just a money thing to them now.
I made the statement last year in basketball season would Dylan Cardwell be the last Auburn hero or something to that effect. I think he might be because we know any player that comes is paid to come any that stays is paid to stay.
Dylan could have left multiple years but hung in there and was classmates with his fellow students.
College sports is dying but everyone surrounding it currently is getting rich so no one cares about the fans, alumni, or the university now. We sold a fricking home game out from under the fans so we could get between 5-8m dollars for players. Costing the city of Auburn businesses 10’s of millions

Man, you have had your head in the sand if you think this is the first year players have been paid. The only difference is it is more regulated and out in the open.
