I’m thinking the normal progression for most players going forward will be high school, ULM type school, SEC school.
Instead of developing players on your scout team they will play for smaller schools and come to the larger schools when they are more ready to play
I completely agree with you. Stars will mean less and less. Snaps and years in college strength and conditioning programs will be the new measuring stick.
With rosters changing so much every year, and players bouncing around, why waste time on potential when you can have production.

Not that it’s a huge difference but the Hampton site has him 6’3 215. Seems like he was a safety coming out of high school.

It was 247 and on3. Could be from HS and he’s grown since they posted measurements.

Also tells you, other than the high profile kids, the portal re evaluation is probably a copy and paste from high school. Cant blame them with so many entering in such a short time.
Smuphy, makes all the sense in the world.
I read an article once about the Pittsburgh Steelers hiring this sports writer, Bill Nunn, from a black newspaper there in the city. He used to do his annual all american team from historically black universities. He worked part time and then full time for them. Players he found that showed up on few draft boards: Mean Joe Greene, Mel Blount, Donnie Shell, LC Greenwood, Johnny Stallworth. Ernie Holmes, Frank Lewis.
As a sidenote as to where college football is headed. The 79 Pittsburgh Steelers were the last team to win a superbowl with no free agents.

It might be smart to QBs an linemen to play FCS/division2/JUCO since they do not lose eligibility for those years of experience.
“Johnny Varsity started 2 years at Eastern Technical Junior College then played 2 years for the FCS Porter State where he lead them on a deep playoff run. He redshirted here his first year with us and has now been a starter for the last 3 seasons. Johnny has started almost 100 games as he enters his final season of eligibility.”

Nunn made it to the Hall of Fame. And not to be "that guy" but I think Donnie Shell was undrafted.

Correct, but lets not mince words I said found not drafted
Ill hijack for one more post. In this day and age when players are called
"crazy" your boy Ernie Holmes was crazy. Going through a divorce, up to his arse in debt by giving money to everyone, he loses it and starts shooting at trucks on the highway and a police helicopter, only a year after joining the Steelers.
Rooney the owner, bails him out of jail, signs the papers to get him into a mental institution for two months (paid for that as well), visits him several times, and by the fall the guy is starting for the Steelers.
No wonder the players loved Rooney.

Alvin Henderson confirmed he is returning. Assuming Mabson is as well. This may be the most balanced RB room we've had in a while as far as types of backs and their size.
Cobb - 5'11 200
Washington - 6'0 216
Mabson - 5'9 213
Henderson - 5'9 202
Davenport - 6'0 216
Meadows - 5'10 180

Gonna be running the “oops all TEs” offense this fall.

We did need TE's. We had 1 scholarship player on the roster, Ghea. This brings the total to 4 transfers. Herring, not sure if he will actually be a full time TE or not.
Posted on 1/23/26 at 10:25 am to GoCrazyAuburn
We’ve only signed 4? It’s seemed like at least 10

According to 247. Newsom, Echols, Boardinham, and Johnson. Herring they have listed as a QB, which technically is what his position is. He is just such a gadget player he will probably be used in multiple areas. So, we can count him as a TE if we want.
Decent re-composition of the room as well. I think Newsom and Echols will be Fr or Soph, Boardingham is a Jr, Johnson Sr, Herring Jr or Sr. Ghea rFr or Soph.

Is Broughton a TE?
We have 7 portal OL with 6 starts or more. They total 99 starts. Ellis also has a couple starts.

Yes, I forgot about him, was looking at the transfers. He is going to need a redshirt anyways.
