Anyone live or ever lived in or within 20-25 minutes of Jasper, AL?

Is there anywhere around there that would be considered a good place to live?
Any decent schools?

HA. There's a potential job there-but based off of internetting...it doesn't appear that its a wonderful place for a family. I fully realize internetting doesn't exactly paint the whole picture-so definitely thanks for the heads up

Agreed. Walker County is awful unless it’s Smith Lake.

You better live in Gardendale and commute to Jasper. Walker County is a shite-hole. Trump country at its finest.

I grew up in Parrish (crap-hole) south of Jasper. I do agree that Walker County is not that prosperous. Jasper, however, is growing and a nice place to live but that's about it.

Are you a redneck, or tolerant of that lifestyle?

Walker county is a great place to raise a family. My sister wife and kids love it.

Grew up in Dora...moved away for college and never moved back.

Try and live closer to Birmingham, at least then the family will have something to do, places to go. Any further north or west of Jasper and you lose touch with civilization.

Gardendale is growing. In reality Jasper is not that far from Birmingham thanks to the new 78 corridor.

I'm a healthcare admin type...

I've got a good job in a great community, but I've also got a "dream job" alert set up on indeed. I don't get alerts all that often, but this one came up and I wondered if it was worth pursuing....Sounds like a not-just-no, but hell no type deal. Thank you all kindly for your not so kind, but very honest assessment of that area.

Anything outside of Jasper is crap and meth territory.

It is actually a very pretty part of the state, but it is about 90% bubba type Crimson Tide fans, sprinkled with some meth heads and illegals. It might be Trump country, but it has the same issues as the 'Blue' belt part of the state - it is just poor. With I22 and time, I think in 20 years it will probably be a bit more prosperous and a nicer place to live.

Jasper was once (May still be) the meth capital of the world, so they have that going for them. Seriously, I think they have tried to clean it up, but it has a very bad rep.

Also, there are only about 2% Auburn fans in that county.

The correct term is "Hitman Capital of the World".

If you don't want a body found, it's in Walker County.
