Moved away from Auburn 4 years ago. Don't miss all the changes.

Went to Auburn a few weeks ago to see my folks. Went in Exit 51. Few observations:

Miss the Supper Club
Never spent any time at Sky Bar bc frick that place
Fat Daddys is a shithole
Harry's has been a thing of the past
The Duck had some good years

Sky Bar has to be the most successful current bar I would guess.

What would you do to have a quality successful bar in Auburn? Cards stacked against you with SB being the bar? Make something more tailored to 30 somethings? Or is Auburn doomed to simply be a mish mash of ages predominately college age?

I graduated many years ago but was very fond of the Supper Club. Used to be a place called Touchdowns that had good drink specials and appetizers.

I might have gone to a bar once or twice during my four years there (92-96). There weren’t many down there then besides Supper Club.

Supper Club will forever be the goat. I still carry my membership card with me and it will never leave my wallet.

I will say Sky Bar, for all its shite, really did a great job with the upstairs bar. It has been great drinking at on game days.

Avondale is decent enough for cocktails.

Southeastern was okay as well.

I mean, what are you expecting? It’s not a city besides the college. There aren’t enough people to support much that isn’t geared at college students.

Breweries usually fill the gap for later 20s/30s not looking for the club/bar scene, not sure Auburn is the spot for those.

If i’m 27/28 and in Auburn I’m joining a small group. I know that’s churchy. Maybe a rec league if that’s not your vibe? The downtown auburn spots cater to fake IDs and kids. That’s just the reality of it

Only place we went was Fink's.

I know a bar thread, but we always went to Mr. Gatti's the day after.

We were always at someone’s apartment or condo. There was never a lack of parties since there weren’t many entertainment options.

Same. I was also fairly poor in college and couldn’t go bars often.

I probably logged the most time at Benji's in the 1992-93 timeframe. It was in the Best Western lobby and would get packed. It helped we knew the bartender and our tab would be ridiculously cheap at the end of the night.

Also spent plenty of time at Supper Club (still have my card), Botchers, Locker Room, Harry's. The downtown scene wasn't big then.

Oh dang, I remember that. I had class with the hostess/girl that ran the event.

Didn’t the cops shut that down eventually?

Did anybody else hang out at Benjis in the 1st floor of the hotel across from Winn Dixie @ S. College & E. University in the 90s? I remember they had $2.50 LITs or draughts!

Sorry just saw your post! I wasn't 21 until '95, so it was 95-96 we hung out there. That's where I went for my 21st. Lost my ID that night too and apparently I dropped it ans some dickhead started a tab on it.

I loved Mr. Gattis! It was a favorite of the distance runners because it was a lot of food/carbs for little $!

I was just talking to my buddy about Touchdowns yesterday. We used to go donate blood on a Friday and get fricked-up at Touchdowns after for like $5!

As someone who probably spent 4 nights a week in Bodega for 2 years, I think it had a pretty decent dynamic with SB at first. Sky was the young bar and Bodega was the upperclassman bar. Even with Skybar the youngins were still excited to graduate to Bodega.

Very curious as to how Auburn's fairly meager bar scene meets the need of 25k+ student body. In my day Auburn was heavy on house parties and whatnot still, but to me it seems the bar offerings were better then than now.

I get the sense students are more willing to spend money - do older students do the bar at some of the better/newer restaurants? That wasn't really a thing when I was in school.

Was that in an old pizza hut type building? Wasn’t it on S Gay? Somewhere near there…
