There was someone on either Harsin’s podcast or Talking Tigers that would handle it similarly to how I would.
I’d designate one night per week to permit phone calls and I’d communicate that to the staffs recruiting my child. Send all the texts and mail you want, but we would only focus on it 1x week.
Edit: I also would like to believe that we wouldn’t grant interviews to any reporting sites following any visits. Keep it close and private.
We’d go visit anywhere my child would like to visit and it would be his choice completely, but I don’t believe I’d let it define our lives. Maybe that’s why I will likely never have this situation

The QB 1 job at NCST is down to Armstrong/MJ Morris right now. I’m not sure Morris hits the portal even if he is QB2. He’ll be all but guaranteed to start next year for them.
The new OC at NC State didn’t bring his senior QB with him to sit on the bench.
There is really no one that thinks Morris is “all but guaranteed” to be the starter there.

So when is Vandergriff at UGA hitting the portal?

You mean Beck, I hear Vandergriff is giving him all he can handle
Still think the rule of not being able to transfer, in this portal period, to another SEC school is nonsense, some kid will challenge it.

4* ATH Terry Bussey will visit Auburn Sunday. He’s on a tour of schools this week
quote:
Hugh Freeze and the Auburn staff have dialed up their efforts with the Timpson (Texas) High School blue-chipper in recent weeks as well. Bussey is eager for his first time on the Plains.
“It’s been great and we’ve been talking a lot,” he said. “Overall, I’m trying to check it out and see what it’s like and how I would fit in over there.”
“Ever since a week or two before they offered,” Bussey continued, “they’ve been pushing pretty hard. They seem like great people and I want to go see for myself what it’s like over there.”

Other WR news from On3
4* WR Terrance Moore should get a visit from Auburn coaches to his school in Tampa. KN says they’re recruiting him hard and that a visit is likely
Cole had an article about 4* WR Braylon Burnside from MS. He was planning to visit for A-day but Auburn coaches had him hold off so that they could spend more time with him.

Auburn is probably ahead of Ole Miss for 3* WR Bryce Cain. He’d be a slot guy. He’s incredibly fast and could be a guy that sees his recruitment blow up this summer as coaches see him in person
Unclear if he can commit right now

maybe I'm not remembering what I was like in high school but I don't think I'd want to get daily calls (or more than that) from some middle age college coaches
With this becoming big money for top recruits I believe some things will be different with calls and contacts. It becomes leverage. Of course you will do interviews now and talk up the last school and show interest so that paycheck swells up.
This isn't just picking a school and scholarship anymore. If you're a highly sought after recruit you're going to build your brand through the recruiting process. Marketing yourself is what this has become.

Probably worth pointing out that these coaches know if it’s a guy that likes contact or not and there are definitely guys that aren’t into it. Communication gets tailored to the athlete.
This process often begins with our recruiting/scouting department reaching out to the high school coach. Sometimes that coach refers to the family, especially if it’s a guy that’s being recruited A TON. But Auburn will have a staffer sort of survey a number of things including communication preference.
From there, they’ll tailor how that prospect is contacted. A guy like Freeze and even our position coaches should have a spreadsheet or report on his desk of who to call or text or whatever for that day. And those will typically have some notes about previous visits, upcoming visits, context from a previous call, and so on. Obviously, Freeze can go his own direction if he feels it’s warranted.
Recruiting is an entire operation and especially so nowadays. I don’t 100% know Auburn’s process for contacting guys but most top performing schools have a system in place to detail everything and streamline recruitment communication for head coaches that are often strapped on time
Edit: I think KN was talking months and months ago, after Freeze was hired, about a conversation he had with a transfer portal OL that liked Auburn. He mentioned that when Harsin called it was clear throughout that call Harsin had know idea who he was. That conversation was part of why that guy ultimately shifted away from considering Auburn because the portal window was tight and that call made him feel like there was too much ground to cover.

All very good points. I was responding to if I was the top recruit or a parent of a top recruit, but you’re perspective of how highly managed the recruiting looks to be accurate.

I’d imagine they utilize a software like Salesforce to keep logs of touches to recruits and important information regarding their families, hobbies, etc.

KN stepping down from covering Auburn sports. Kind of been coming for a while, but he delayed it. Lives in Fla now and its probably more difficult to get info about/from Auburn from so far away. Sucks for all of us though.

Does he have Parkinson’s? He’s always twitching on the Auburn Live videos.

Yeah I was surprised he stayed on this long. He was one of the best covering Auburn. Assuming he’s either moving to a national role or covering a FL team.

quote:Keith? I have no idea about his health. I know his mom passed about a year or so ago and she was still living in Fla. My guess is its somewhat related to that/maybe have a home or property there and its just easier to live there now. He's a Fla boy anyway, so maybe that's just where he wants to be.

I don’t believe it’s Parkinson’s, no.

Cole is way better than KN. He's the one they can't afford to lose. In fact, I'd say KN is the least necessary podcast member.

I’d argue Jeffrey is the most valued member. Cole is learning the ropes pretty quickly.
From my perspective, Keith was the least biased recruiting beat AU has had for the last decade. Unfortunately over the past year he took a step back for the reasons already mentioned. He’ll be missed but he wasn’t the most connected of late.

Cole seems to be the one visiting everywhere for sure.
