I saw a show about recruiting many years ago and there was a guy who did coaching clinics for elite kids, very elite. He said there are no restrictions on when scholarships can be offered and they asked him the youngest, and he said one of the kids in his camp was offered a full ride when he was three days old. Course his dad played pro ball on the OL for years and his alma mater was the one offering the scholly.

That is nothing more than a pointless "recruiting story". That would qualify as a verbal offer, which in reality isn't worth shite. The school can't send out scholarship/enrolment papers to an infant, and at the end of the day they always have to accept a "commitment". So no, they aren't actually offering a scholarship to a baby. C'mon dawg.

But it was a hell of a heart warming story.

It makes sense, otherwise you would be handing out bling every week to top prospects, its the unlimited number of visits a recruit can take (just not to the same school twice) that could lead to schools burning visits on kids who mislead them.
Yea I mean in the scheme of things the cost of official visits is pretty inconsequential to top schools - it's really more about the time and opportunity cost of hosting kids who have no intention of going there when you could be focusing on mutual interests. Maybe they just needed to double the number of each... 10 allowed for kids and 100 allowed for schools or something like that.

They don't really give "bling" unless something has changed. You get hotel/food/events and stuff like that (i.e. experiences) but not actual "stuff".

UGA spent over $4.5 million on recruiting for 2022. The total spend they have over the past five years is ridiculous, but it certainly has produced results. Think we’ve been around the $1 million mark.

Would be interesting to know the numbers but my guess is that an OV costs the school something like $5-10k per kid and that's a heavy estimate which includes the internal accounting that probably goes on with the school's event staff etc... Recruiting is probably some of the highest ROI for an athletic department... If you think about it the football team is basically a business where you're turning over every employee every couple of years... talent acquisition should be a big line item.

They just got a committment from another 5* QB. Brock V will never see the field.

There was a graphic with the top teams in spending. I think UGA was head and shoulders above the rest of the conference.

His decision to stay seems to really be working out for him. His mom was smart enough to keep him away from Gus, but too dumb to see the writing on the wall at UGA.

Carson Beck probably starts in ‘23 and ‘24 and Raiola takes over as a RS Freshman in ‘25. The only way VG or Stockton play is if Beck is injured.

Looks like transfers Ukwu and MLC won’t end up at Auburn, per On3

LB Larry Nixon from N Texas is supposed to announce today. Finalists are Auburn, Miami, and WVU. He wants to inform all of the coaches before he announces so it could get pushed to tomorrow if needed

JLee thinks Auburn is in good shape here

We were always so quick to shite on our past coaches for UGA creating a gap between themselves and Auburn but now, that gap is opening up exponentially. Not shitting on Hugh but UGA just got the #1 player/quarterback in this cycle and we are fighting for North Texas transfers. That gap is growing.

I dont know if money alone can fix that. The talent difference at UGA and still at Bama and everyone else is getting ridiculous.

I am not even sure Auburn is committed enough any more to try and keep up with that.

Got to spend $ to make $. Will AU start slinging the bills like uga and bama? If not, the separation will continue.

I think the talent gap, and the cause, has been eluded to several times. When 2 previous coaches didn't recruit for 2 years there will be holes to fill, and depth to be created. I think Auburn and Hugh have both shown a serious commitment with all the roster turnover. We have upgraded at several positions in a very short time, the portal and JUCO guys were the quickest method available. With continued improvement on the field I suspect we will only see that gap get smaller.

Is it inconceivable to think we are saving NIL $ to pour into the next class, and others going forward? With improvement I'd think more $ becomes available. This won't happen overnight. Even I know that, and I'm an impatient arse

I would say its shrinking with the talent Hugh is bringing in.
