Auburn offered Jackson State WR Shane Hooks
Grad transfer with 1 year left
quote:
Hooks, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, led JSU last season in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions. He finished with 66 catches for 775 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had two touchdown receptions in four different games.

Question for the board.
A kid transfers to Auburn. If it does not work out and he wants to transfer (2nd transfer) he has to sit out a year if its Power Five.
Iver heard it mentioned on podcasts that if the kid is an undergrad and it does not work out, we are "stuck" with him. There is no rule regarding this is there? Im assuming they mean the kid does not want to sit if he transfers again and does not want to move down in schools, but that is not Auburn's problem from a rules standpoint is it?

It means even if he's not on your team the scholarship still counts against you until he's out of eligibility.

I thought scholarships were year to year. You’d only be “stuck” for one year

Normal scholarships are generally year to year. Some schools offer 4 years. This is a special rule they added to help slow down the amount of transfers. Now if someone transfers in they are on your books no matter what until they are out of eligibility.
So yes, with a grad transfer with 1 year left to play, you are only on the hook for a year.
However with someone like Montana Craig who has 2 years of eligibility left, you would on the hook with him/his scholarship for 2 years.
I might have a few small details wrong, but that's generally how it works now.

I’m pretty sure once a transfer like Finley re-enters the portal the university is absolved from the financial aid obligations right?
Otherwise yeah, the institution has to honor the financial obligation for as long as the player has NCAA eligibility.

Others that will be OVing that week include:

OT Eagen Boyer was supposed to OV that weekend, but has since committed to Penn State so unsure if he will visit or not

Starting to believe the bond he has with Jake Thornton is going to win here

This rule change with unlimited official visits for the prospects, I dont understand the reasoning. When the school had a limited number and the prospect could only take five, you knew both were serious, now its a lot more questionable. Guess its a good thing we arent one of the Cali schools or Hawaii

It's just not fair these 17-18 year old kids get to be treated like kings by only five schools of their choosing across the country as they try to decide which one to use for free tuition (with little to no actual school work involved), food, clothes, housing, trainers, tutors, weight rooms, on top of 6-7 figure salaries for a year before they enter the porter to sell to the highest bidder all over again as soon as they can.
To suffer these indignities and modern day slavery, because they can run fast, they also deserve unlimited free trips to wherever they want to go however many times they want to go. If you can't understand that, you're a racist.
Happy Mother's Day

How good are we at projecting 15-16 year olds?
How early are we evaluating talent now for college recruiting? Is it 15-16 years old or even younger?
some guys bloom late.

I saw a show about recruiting many years ago and there was a guy who did coaching clinics for elite kids, very elite. He said there are no restrictions on when scholarships can be offered and they asked him the youngest, and he said one of the kids in his camp was offered a full ride when he was three days old. Course his dad played pro ball on the OL for years and his alma mater was the one offering the scholly.
The interviewer said "but still there is no guarantee the newborn is gonna grow up to be his dad's size. The coach said....."Well he was nearly 13 pounds when he walked out of the womb".

quote:Some guys can bloom VERY late haha. Played with a guy in college whose dad played in the NFL. Graduated HS slightly young as a 6'1" 195 linebacker. Grew to 6'3" 240ish and got some NFL looks... He probably wouldn't have played at my school if he had his growth spurt in HS.

On the official visit stuff - who really cares how many the recruits go on? It's fun for them, it's barely an expense for the schools in the scheme of things, and honestly probably gets us more OVs than we might otherwise get while we're on the rebound.

The schools are limited on the number we can offer, thats were it can hurt us, thinking a kid is generally interested and burning our officials.
Someone on here can help, it used to be 56 I think, what is it now with all these rule changes. This period is an anomaly given the fixing of the roster, but in a normal year going forward what can we expect, 30 or more signees? With 56 officials thats a heck of a hit rate to try and achieve.

I didnt either Hunter, I just found out when they mentioned that Freeze was allowed to let kids who had visited on an official revisit only because of the head coaching change.
It makes sense, otherwise you would be handing out bling every week to top prospects, its the unlimited number of visits a recruit can take (just not to the same school twice) that could lead to schools burning visits on kids who mislead them.

Unlimited for recruits is new. Schools are capped for now but it’s been rumored there could be an increase
I’m guessing they’re gonna just see what happens then adjust next year. I don’t think it changes the equation much for Auburn as of now
