This pleases me. We could have done a lot worse.

Solid hire. If Gus can find his offense we could have some stability for awhile.

A buddy of mine who is an Ole Miss fan loved the guy and is jealous we might be getting him.

I think someone else said that FSU fans were saying Allen would be Charles Kelly's replacement if he came to AU and that most were really excited about Allen (maybe even more than Kelly).

People who want an elite d coord are kidding themselves. Not because we're AU, but because there are so few elite d coords out there. It's about time AU takes a chance on an up-and-comer.

I wonder if Gus will make Lance a co-dc and give him a bump in salary too to keep him on staff. Should have plenty of money to do it.

All the people falling over themselves for Charles Kelly need to go back and look at his first year calling plays at FSU.

Allen now has one year under his belt, granted it's not with our personnel, but I'm sure he's learned. Very few guys call an amazing defense their first year... how was Saban/Smarts defense in 2007?

He'll improve I'm sure... we're counting on it.

I think that LT will stay. Isn't he only one or two years away from being vested in the retirement system?

Next year is going to hinge on our QB. A DC is not going to save next season. Gus controls his own destiny.

Actually Allen has been a DC at the collegiate level for 4 years. His joining AU as DC will mark his 5th year as a coordinator.

He spent 2 years at the NAIA level, 1 at FCS and 1 at FBS

2008-2009 Lambuth College - NAIA
2010 Drake University - NCAA (FCS) level
2015 USF - NCAA (FBS) level

He also was a DC at the HS level for a long time too which equates to 0.5 Gus Experience Years per 1 HS year

Smart and Steele were co-DCs until Steele left for Clemson... but I could be off on that.

Smart wasn't promoted to DC until 2008 and Steele was effectively demoted to "Head Defensive Coach" / LB coach

Steele was the Dameyune Craig "Co-Coordinator" to Smart's Lashlee "I'm the actual coordinator"

FWIW, Cubelic had us hiring Kelly two weeks ago... so take what comes out of his mouth with a grain of salt.

How has this passed the approval of the GOB/Pat Dye Network that controls everything in Auburn?
