Auburn HC candidate Cristobal coaches next after Iowa State game.

And lost to an 0-3 Cal team...However, Coastal Carolina pulled it out against BYU...interesting offense they have.

Cristobal isn’t at the top of my list, but you’re going out on a very weak limb here. He took over a new pile of shite and turned them into winners. He had one bad year.

Can we embrace that hiring a coach is a fool's errand? How many 'guaranteed homerun hires' have panned out for anyone else?

Herman?
Muschamp?
Chip Kelly?
Jim Harbaugh?
Scott Frost?

I'm definitely ready to move on, but i think we'd be wise to temper our expectations a bit. The only guaranteed winner aint coming to Auburn from Alabama. We don't want (nor do we have a realistic chance at) Urban Meyer, and we shouldn't be stooping to Hugh Freeze.

Brent Venables is the only reasonable answer.

Good night, God bless, and Merry Christmas-i hope you're all enjoying your families.

An ACC DC with zero interest to become a HC. Super reasonable...

Get on the Lane Train or quit being an Auburn fan, it's the only reasonable answer.

You showed me...

You cited a fricking Pete Thamel article.

Do Pat Forde, Sports by Brooks, and Josh Moon all agree also?

I’m sure we’ll hire some president in the confines of closed doors, just to pay him hush money a couple years later... after we sign another coach to a decade deal.

Auburn is difficult to like at times.

Its ok to be wrong dude, which you are.

The article is based on a quote from Brent Venables himself, not some editorialized crap from a hack writer we love (deservedly so) to hate.

USCe hired Shane Beamer as HC. Not really liking their firing of Boom now.

Matt Campbell
He made Toledo and Iowa State winners for sure. The only thing I question is who has he coached under? Typically, and I’m not saying this is always the case, great coaches have coached under other great coaches.

Apparently his dad was a well known HS HC.

His coach at Mount Union was a coaching legend as well.

His hiring to Auburn will be uncomfortable for many because it’s the hiring of a person with no familiarity of our region, much less Auburn culture. He also seems like a meat and potatoes guy, not a flashy guy like Kiffin with catchy Twitter handles and jokes, so he WILL be less entertaining.

But I think it would work. He doesn’t have a familiarity with Alabama and Georgia but if he retains a few holdovers such as T Will I think we would get the best of both worlds. Currently, we have ONE committed recruit between the states of Alabama and Georgia. If any time is right, now is the time to give it a shot.

I'm good with Gus as AU HC but I really like watching Campbell and the OC Manning's offense. They run a ton of 12 and 13 personnel (2 & 3 TE sets), but maintain run/pass balance because they focus on the TE in the pass game. I think close to 40% of their pass yardgage comes from the TE.

Morris runs some 12 sets with an H-Back/TE but I don't think he runs 13 sets. I think this would work well at AU because we could get good athletes at TE and we could also run the hell out of the ball from those personnel groupings. I would hope Gus and Morris would take a look at what Iowa State is doing. Its really effective.
