Offensive timing

Don’t know if it’s the schemes or the players or what but I don’t understand why our timing on passing plays is so bad. I don’t remember the last time I watched us have a receiver run a crisp route get open and the qb throw the ball on target downfield and we catch and run. Our timing is always off. Either the ball is early or late. Over thrown or under thrown and the receiver is late back to the ball. It’s so frustrating that we can’t get that right when we are supposed to have these great receivers and can’t use them

I think Ashton not playing all season was a bit rusty. Had he played instead of Arnold all season there would have been some chemistry developed and he'd been use to the SEC speed.

I like Ashton quite a bit. Gritty gamer. But he’s not gonna be a guy that stretches the field and distributes the ball outside and inside the numbers to an array of receivers. I’d be fine personally if Ashton is our QB next season but if I am Cam Coleman I’d probably transfer

I'm on record as Ashton played his heart out last night and gave us every chance to win that game. However, it was almost all on improvisation and for some reason Bama didn't really pressure or be aggressive and let it happen.
I think against a team that brought pressure (which teams will figure out and do) and cut down on the backyard ball plays he would really struggle. I would not feel great if he were our starting QB going into next year but I don't feel great about anything AU football related right now sooooo

The timing has been off since 2017. Even when we had Nix, he was often scrambling around making something happen.
There’s a deep seeded virus in our program. Message board banter might be fun, but we’ll never really know why our football team has sucked so bad the past decade.

As evidenced by this coaching search, we have no desire to go out and hire the best coaches and get out of their way. Bad coaching = bad results on the field. It's really not a complicated issue. Our big time boosters would never hire someone like Saban and give them carte blanche over the program.

Maybe AU is still paying the price for Kick Six.

This is spot on.
Bad AD also equals bad coaching hires

Yeah it was odd what Bama did. They started the game bringing pressure and Ashton was all over the place and constantly throwing as he was falling away. Then they just started rushing 3 or 4 and dropping into coverage. Our Pop Warner route designs then just broke down into scramble drills and AD started having some success.
He is a gutsy warrior, for sure. And I applaud his effort, but he has accuracy and touch issues. His deep ball is not going to scare any defenses because it is so inaccurate and he fires fastballs to RBs who are 5 yards away. Maybe if we had a real QB coach to polish him up a bit, he would be dangerous, but he is pretty damn far from "polished". This being his 4th year of football makes me wonder how much more polished he can get.
