Nah. Gus had killed AU football. KS would be there at most 5 years.

probably but if they hire Kevin fricking Steele as the head coach, that sentiment won't last long

I still say there is no way in hell they will hire Steele as HC. No fricking way.

That would be the dumbest move in coach hiring history..

But for Steele? Absolutely not.

I concur on the feeling, but the longer the search goes the less likely Steele gets the job, imho.

In a perfect world, Oregon wins PAC12 championship and soon as Cristobal shakes USC coach’s hand he rips his Oregon polo off to reveal a new and improved Auburn sweater vest. Giving the crowd the double bird all the way into the tunnel.

And that’s how it is announced. Leave no room for doubt.

Oregon guys are saying Mario's extension will be announced today

This is definitely what we are watching for today. Because realistically, if they’ve been working on it this week, it should be done by today. Right?

This committee is proof in their mind and something to point to when they name Steele

Anytime between today and Saturday morning makes sense to announce the extension for them.

IIRC, the albatross that put us in the situation we are currently in was announced the morning after the SEC Championship game in 2017

There'll be no need for him to stay 5 years. Football at Auburn would be done after 2.

If it's MC, it'll be announced on Saturday before the SEC champ game. If it's Steele, there is literally no reason to delay, should have been announced yesterday.

The only problem is the damn Pac 12 title game timing. I think it's given Oregon time to scramble and possible strengthen their pitch. If Washington was still in the title game, MC would have been announced already.

It doesn't matter if a committee or I hire Steele no fan is going to accept him as the hire.

Oregon is cleaning up today. 10 have signed thus far, seven 4*s. They have the 6th ranked class nationally right now.

That tells me that MC sent word to the croots that he is staying there. Could be a lie obviously.

Good. I don’t want to overpay for MC. I’d rather Napier.

Steele ain't happening. He is being a good "Auburn man" and keeping our sad little recruiting class together for Billy Napier.

Napier and ULL gonna beat Coastal for the Sun Belt on Saturday afternoon. That'll give him two top 25 wins on the season (Iowa St and Coastal). News will leak on Saturday evening of the hire, he will be officially announced and introduced on Sunday afternoon.

Napier may consider keeping Steele on staff (they have history working together), depends on Steele's commitment to "New Auburn" and winning national championships.
