Bill Elliot would be a great hire. He likes to go fast.

That was my fault. My screen protector is coming off and my autocorrect is fighting it

Marcello just tweeted that the search could last a few more days, maybe a week. Supposedly closing in on our guy though. Might hear about a search committee, but its all show if they do.

That we're having to "search" at all is absurd. This thing should have been basically done before we fired Malzahn.

IF we were stupid enough to fire Gus without a final decision on replacement, then that is pathetic.

I hope we had all the details worked out before firing Gus.

It was also quoted by Jake Crain, so I’m more inclined to believe it.

New coaching search question and answer thread on 247, I'll post what I can because I don't care if they ban me at this point lol. All from Ron Sanders again, apparently he used to own the site before it merged with 247.

Cristobal has not been offered the job
Gogue wants a search committee
Still leaning Steele
Jimmy Rane is backing Steele
If Steele most, if not all, offensive staff would be out

Thats all for now.

Friendly reminder that Marcello is fairly worthless when it comes to coaching searches. He may be right, he may be wrong here, but he isn't speaking from anywhere with legit insight.

Same with the slacker staff.

So now we have conflicting reports on who wants Steele.

Auburn "insiders" don't know anything.

NOT TRUE... Harbert is backing Steele, if Rane is also, it is over.

Rane was for MC or Stoops...

You’d think after all these years that people would stop believing everything these guys say about coaching searches

If we fired Gus, just to keep Steele, we deserve the Tennessee future that is coming.

You already had steele. Why fire Gus just to promote Steele makes no sense at all. Plus you could get another coach that would keep Steele around.

If it turns out to be Steele then we have learned nothing about coaching searches.

Agree with all of this. An important distinction between Cristobal and Smart though: Smart's biggest problem is an inability to field a dynamic offense. Cristobal doesn't appear to have the same problem.

Really tough to compare anything out in the PAC12 to what could be done in the SEC. The way he is recruiting and building his oline out there is going to give them a huge advantage against most teams they play. But just looking at some of the scores from this season it appears defense is their bigger issue.

In the end I am definitely coming around to the Cristobal hire if we could pull it off. More than anything I like the idea of a HC that doesn't have a background as an OC or DC. We saw with Gus that once his offense wasn't working anymore he really wasn't able to do anything to fix that side of the ball. Bringing in somebody like Cristobal you know you are getting somebody who is an elite recruiter, but will most likely be more of the CEO type and let their coordinators do their thing. If one side of the ball starts to struggle you move on to somebody else that fits what you want to do stylistically. Gus was able to find the right piece on defense, but could never fully move the offense forward and that is what made us all feel trapped/hopeless.

People say women want drama. And that may be true... but nobody thrives on drama more than the SEC Rant during a coaching search

Yep. Every single one of them has been wrong pretty much every time. Hell, even when changing coordinators they were completely wrong. They are all still convinced Jimbo is coming here because his wife loves Auburn.

Just my opinion, but I think the money guys want Steele because they know him and like him. Gogue wants to have a legit search committee and thats the power struggle behind the scenes. I assume PM and everyone else just assumes the money guys will win out and thats why they think it will be Steele.
