Melting and trying to work are a bad combo. Auburn football is a disaster.

Why not just call Napier back, and give him what he wants? Also why have we not considered Kiffin or Freeze at this point. Maybe I'm off but there is nothing exciting about Clark. I would have liked Sark but apparently that's not happening either.

This whole search is starting to stink. All of the media outlets are trashing Auburn and reporting some degree of dysfunction.

We are going to end up like Tennessee in 2017.

They got fricking Pruitt.

I don't want a fricking Pruitt type hire.

Because the boosters would rather suck and be in control than win and lose control.

This would be classic tigerdroppings for someone to send him some crazy shite and end up on the news

Or at least work a compromise on hiring. Certainly, there are common areas to make this work...

If that happened, our coaching search would officially blow past Tennessee for wildest search of all time.

Can someone lay out a list of actual candidates left now?

Just tracking in my head I have us at:
Lane Kiffin
Bill Clark
Brent Venables

But no one cares about Clark because he'd be the definition of "meh."

My only hope is that Napier telling us no bc of a lack of total control makes the ppl that actually have the authority (Gogue, Greene) realize that they have to cut these boosters out. Maybe that’ll free us up to hire the “earth shattering” hire by giving them a nice contract and a guarantee that they’ll have total control...

This won’t happen, but a guy can dream.

Neal Brown is a name you can probably add to that list.

And never count out Kevin Steele at this rate.

That would certainly move the said poster above putting TD signs across the street from a Bham stripper's house, and getting Chris Todd to post on here. Might even move them above GeauxJudge in the annals of TD history.

I don't know if you've been paying attention, but Auburn caliber is quickly meaning something different than you think it means.

Venables interviewed and the PTB want Clark. Lane will not be hired. It will be Clark or Steele (May have been the plan all along)

frick it, just give me Clark. If they'll let him pick his own staff, maybe it works.

But if they insist he retains certain coaches, I'll fire this thread up again in 2023.

Clark will have the same problem as Gus, and probably even more so with hiring asst coaches.

Now, with Napier's reasoning for not taking the job out in the open, what good coach in their right mind would even entertain Auburn with an interview knowing that they won't be given the backing to do it their way?

I'll answer myself: No one.
