Anybody else super skeptical of WR recruits with a lot of hype now? Seems all our big ones have busted/not worked out while most of our better receivers are lower tier recruits. At least for the past 10-15 years.

Plainsman report

Also 247 reporting:

Craig-Myers and his half-brother, backup defensive back Jayvaughn Myers, did not attend practice Thursday, two sources tell Auburn Undercover. Both players' careers at Auburn are over, another source said.

I know it’s fun to melt and post hot takes but he has two catches through 3 games. He had 16 catches in 10 games last year.

He’s just not a factor in our offense. If he was as good as you guys are making him out to be he would have more catches, more targets. Chip isn’t running NCM out wide 40-50 snaps a game just to whisper in Jarrett’s ear that he can’t throw to him because Gus doesn’t like him, or whatever you guys are coming up with

Schwartz and Williams have been targeted more this season than NCM and have more receptions. Slayton and Davis are still getting their share. Stove and Hastings are working back in. All we heard about in fall camp we how well the freshman receivers were playing and you guys were eating it up then. Now that they’re taking the snaps away from your favorite veterans you’re flipping your lids

NCM played the most snaps of any WR last year... and had the 5th most catches.

He suffered a severe lower body injury as a HS senior... that caused him to redshirt his first year at AU. He’s never fully regained that explosiveness that made him a potential #1 overall recruit.

The timing sucks, but this is not a big deal... assuming we stay healthy at WR.

Seth Williams: 4*, top 250 recruit

Ryan Davis: 4* top 250 recruit

Eli Stove: 4* top 250 recruit

Darius Slayton: 4* top 250 recruit

Anthony Schwartz: 4* top 250 recruit

Didn’t work out:

NCM: 4* top 250 recruit

Kyle Davis: 4* top 250 recruit

Granted, Davis and NCM were top 100 guys, and the others were in the 100-175 range but most of our receivers that are working out are blue chip kids coming to Auburn with long offer sheets.

As much as you guys talk about the standard at Auburn being so high, you sure are crabby when highly recruited players leave. You guys want Auburn to be on the same level as Alabama. They bleed blue chip recruits that don’t pan out. You just can’t have it both ways

Hate to see him go but other than bailing mid season he seems to have handled himself well at Auburn.

There is a noticeable difference in him and Seth from a pure talent standpoint though. Assuming Seth is heathy I can’t see it being a huge issue football wise.

Fortunately for them, they also recruit on a higher level than Auburn and can replace one blue chip with another. They can also sell almost every position on the team based on a certain career at Alabama under Nick Saban. They’ve literally had stars at every position...except kicker.

It seems that Auburn sees more busts from a blue chip prospect to normal player ratio more than any other team.

NCM is literally getting beat out by another 4* WR that’s a freshman. If that’s not replacing blue chip with blue chip then what do you want to call it?

Is it a recruiting disadvantage to tell incoming WRs that if you’re the better player you’re going to get more snaps? Because that’s what is happening.

One played in the UA All American game. One was a top 50 player.

One played in the Alabama/Mississippi All Star Game. One was a top 200 player.

In terms of recruiting, Seth Williams doesn’t compare to Nate Craig Myers, IMO. You may disagree and that’s fine because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Also, can anyone throw out the catch-drop ratio on Seth Williams for this year? I’ve seen him drop, what, 3 this year?

You say we got receiver depth but that isn’t showing up in the box score or by game impact. Our position receivers shared maybe 10 receptions btwn Slayton, Davis, Williams, Schwartz, Eli, and Hastings. It’s time to start sharing the rock.

Also, NCM was our best blocker.

I have zero info on that. I don’t even know how many snaps these guys have taken. I do know NCM is on the field a lot.

Just trying to dig into the disappointment here. I understand that NCM was on that very top tier. But I just haven’t seen that on the field. If NCM is the game changer we like to portray him as then he’d get the targets. Is that a product of our offense not valuing his 50/50 skillset? I think so, maybe. But regardless he’s just not productive beyond blocking. I can’t get myself worked up about him moving on

Since this is NCM’s redshirt year does that mean he’s eligible at the start of next season?

Has auburn ever lost out on a transfer? I feel like it's always a lot of drama when it happens, but then we never hear about these transfers putting up huge numbers for the new school.

I could be wrong though.

Since Gus has been head coach the only one who made any noise was Roc. That was FBS and he clearly wasn't as good as KJ and Jovon. If he would have manned up and stayed he'd of gotten his chance though.

I've always thought NCM had a ton of talent but always noticed he gets covered up a lot. Our receivers seem like once they are covered they give up on their routes. When happy feet starts running around most of the time they dont try to adjust their routes accordingly or come back to the ball. I've actually seen a few times where NCM would be covered and it almost appeared he was just jogging around. I don't know if it's a coaching issue or what .
