Any legs to this? Mason has kept alot of talent from going to the NFL. Could that change if Mason leaves?

So who are among Freeman’s top candidates? Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Iowa State defensive coordinator Jon Heacock, Auburn defensive coordinator Derek Mason, Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks, current Jacksonville Jaguars safeties coach and former college defensive coordinator Chris Ash, and current Cincinnati Bengals linebackers coach Al Golden, the former Miami and Temple head coach are all under consideration and that Freeman also is holding some options close to the vest.

Hopefully they wouldn’t want 2 Masons on the staff.

But seriously, we have to be paying him more than they would, right?

Y’all need to read the whole article lol. I for one would not mind seeing 3rd and Mason go, as long as we can keep Eason and Etheridge.

I love how we all wanted Mason fired all season and now we're worried about Texas A&M, Miami, and Notre Dame hiring him away

I am not sure I would lose a second of sleep if he left.

I would hope no one on here would lose any sleep over any coach leaving

Well you should. Would be hard to find someone significantly better.

You are shitting me, right?

I have enough common sense to send pressure on a QB that is sitting in the pocket and picking us apart........State.

I am smart enough to keep sending pressure on a QB that is obviously being affected by it.............and it has been working all game long....bama

He just does not like sending more than four. I am of the mindset that you pressure the QB.......which speeds things up for him. That also helps the DB's out.

He called some good games this year. He called some bad games this year. He went away from what was working in games this year. We can certainly find another DC with those qualities.

He coordinated a top 35 defense against maybe the hardest schedule in the country in his first season. He was also our 4th highest rated recruiter.

Is he irreplaceable? No. But he’s a guy who you can pretty much guarantee to run a decent defense every year. It almost always is a negative to lose a decent coordinator. The new guy has to come in, teach a new scheme, reestablish recruiting ties, etc.
