Devan Barrett played last week, but all he did was catch passes out of the backfield. I just can't fathom why he wasn't given the opportunity to run the ball.

We have plans for Martin/Barrett and don't want their ability exposed

I don't think you could possibly quote that more out of context
1- You left off my explicit "Posibarner Option" which precedes the quoted part
2- I gave other options on that post

Maybe Martin got in trouble? That or they are trying to get Pettway up to speed if he has been missing a lot of fall camp
Honestly, I thought the exact same thing. Other backs might have been in trouble and/or KP needed to shake rust off.
Also, and I mentioned this in another thread. AU like to boast the number of consecutive seasons we've had a 1000 rusher. Maybe since KP was out/didn't get many yards the first two games, they wanted him to make up for lost time. Finally, could be an issue of pass pro. Pettway likely offers the best option at pass protection.

Why does anyone think Gus chose to run KP and only KP? It is more likely at best it was Horton's decision or at worst Chip's.
I would bet a lot of money it was Gus's decision. I bet if it were up to Chip Chandler cox and a traditional fullback period wouldn't even be part of the offense this year

Players want to play. It motivates them. Leaving them on the bench demotivates them. Play more people.

This isn't a DC situation. Horton has the power to choose who plays. Formations may dictate certain players, but Horton possess that power.

Okay, then. If two or three other running backs play this week, will you admit you were wrong?
About that specifically? Yes. Not about any of the rest.

More running backs run up the middle on first down?

KP and KJ
It's the game plan before the season began, until one is hurt and done. It's almost as if he must be forced into making a decision on who's next the man to run.

“It was a close game,” Malzahn said, adding Auburn needed “the security of a veteran guy in there. … That was the thinking in that particular game.”
Just remember this statement was made in a game against Mercer.
Not to mention said "veteran" was getting like 3 yards a carry and fumbled inside the 10 yard line.

That's not the point. The point is his dumbass ran one Rb 800 times against the worst team on our schedule and it clearly wasn't working. I could have 100 yards on 30 carries against that shitty arse defense. Give someone else a shot.
Have you or do you know anyone who has had plantar fasciitis? If so, you'd know that if Pettway were to sit for an extended period of time, there was no shot he'd be able to trot back out there. He'd be in an immense amount of pain and it is no longer "warmed up".
personally, I had no issue w/ KP getting a ton of carries because of that, but also because he really needed a game where he just gets fed a bunch to see if he can handle it.
I think he did fail that test in some regards. His YPC got worse as the game wore on and I am not sure if he is in as good of game shape as he should've been coming into the year. That's just me speculating.

I believe we were all shell shocked by the amount of sacks last week. Pettway is the best blocking back we have, perhaps that why he was in the backfield. If you take him out its obvious it will be a run and the defense will sell out against it. With Pettway in, at least there are options.

Yeah. Gus thinks Kerryon Johnson will be back. So more than just pettway. Not sure who is the idiot in the mix...Gus or Lindsay.

Will KJ qualify for a medical redshirt then?

So we've either got to play him constantly or not play him at all?

“FIRE GUS”
I think you're missing the point. Gus seems completely incapable of maximizing the use of the talent he has on the team. How does a guy pulling down the salary he does, with a reputation of being an offensive innovator consistently fail to get the most out of what he has available to him? Have you seen Kam Martin since week 1? Where was Barrett up until last week? These guys can obviously play, but you wouldn't know it by the way they just vanish out of the line ups week in and week out. For a guy that is struggling to find some consistency on offense, you would think he would be getting guys in and out and seeing who makes the offense click. Instead we're getting "I think you'll see more running backs". Why is he just now coming to that realization in week 4?
