Everything below is just a personal opinion and output, please feel free to add yours or ask any concerns of why I listed anyone in a certain place. I’m open to all opinions I personally just love talking football especially about my favorite team lmao. Also this is a roster of what I think we’ll see opening day.

QB- Nix, Sandberg, Garrett
RB- DJ, Joiner, MAR, Tank, Shivers, Miller
HB- Shenker, Pegues, Fromm
WR X- Seth, Jackson, Capers, Sheffield
WR Y- Stove/Hill, Hudson
WR Z- Schwartz/Stove, Farrar, Evans, Canion
WR H- Hill, Johnson
TE- Frazier, Pegues, Deal, Fromm
LT- Troxell/Zeier, Jackson
LG- Jones/Manning, Osborne, Wright
C- Brahms, Irvin, Bell, Jernigan
RG- Irvin/Manning, Johnson
RT- Hamm, Coffey, Sammons
DE- Butler/Handy, Walker/Wooden, Johnson
DT- Truesdell, Miller, Hardy
DT- Banks, Newkirk
BUCK- Big Kat/TD/Hall, Height
OLB- Pappoe/ McClain, Marsh, Brothers, Riley
ILB- Britt, Wooten, Brown/ Steiner
Nickel- Tutt/ Tennison, Leonard
Dime- Peters/ Tennison
BCB- Domio, Barrett, Simpson
FCB- McCreary, Pritchett, Reed
FS- Smoke, Askew
SS- Sherwood, Thompson Jr.

As for position breakdowns I’ll start with the QBs. I expect Nix to show improvement and can easily pass for 3.5k I expect nearly 4K if all goes as planned lmao. Sandberg will get all the mop up duty then maybe a few games you’ll see Garrett at the end but I expect to see Hudson before him I think they’ll play him the last 4 games or lesser opponents or something like that.

As for running back’s its finally safe to say we have elite depth. I expect DJ to take the job in the spring and never look back BUT the ones behind will be the main factor in the run game being successful. The RB2 and RB3 who I think will be Joiner and MAR. I expect Tank to get around the same load as Shaun does being spelled in at times they can really hurt the defense, I can also see Tank forcing himself into the regular lineup but to start the season I see him in the “here and there” role which he’ll excel at.

HB will be left up to Shenker it’s his to lose. Gus obviously likes this guy and honestly I don’t think he’s done anything to lose the spot unless Pegues just comes in a kills it completely.

As for receivers I expect Seth to be a top receiver in the league next season with around 700-1k yards. He’ll of course be the favorite target but like RB we have to find the number 2&3 options for every pass play. The good thing is the talent is all there so hopefully a fresh start and some new wrinkles can bring out the better of some of the younger players becoming upperclassmen. I think Eli will remain a safe consistent target and with consistent help from one or two more receivers, who I think will be Hill and Farrar, plus a TE that we can depend on, but not too much, then the passing game will be lethal. Farrar doesn’t have to be a 1k yard receiver but if he can be depended on to win some jump balls and deep balls it’ll blow the top of of any defense instantly. Also wether Schwartz returns also matters, if he doesn’t I expect Stove to slide outside he’s capable of running multiple routes and Hill would play slot. If any of the freshman receivers step up it’ll be a plus. I personally would expect either Capers or Hudson but all 4 have elite potential along with Johnson who redshirted last year. I think Frazier will have a good freshman campaign as well as Pegues, maybe not spectacular but solid those two have unlimited potential as freshman.

I think this year the Oline will prove stars aren’t everything. There’s no doubt we’ve lacked at developing here and definitely recruiting here but if all are healthy for the season we have a pretty solid group. Not one that will jump out on paper but a lot of hard nosed physical guys that we’ve been wanting, not guys getting knocked on their butts. A lot of these guys are just naturally physical and when they get the technique down we’ll be just fine if not at an elite level. It all depends on how fast it clicks. I also expect whoever is healthier out of Troxell and Zierer to be the starter at LT. Troxell has had injury problems but when he’s healthy he’s good. He’s got big long arms and knows how to use them to go along with his strength it’s all about health with him or he would’ve been a starter by now at one of the tackle spots. Hamm after life changing experiences I know will take this opportunity and make the most of it I expect nothing less than conference all American from him. The interior will be good at pass pro but I’m curious to see how good if a push we’ll get. I know for sure Keiondre Jones will get a push no matter what that’s why I have him edging out a starting role but Manning who is also very physical can step in at either side if needed. Brahms taking another step will only help the unit he has to take charge without a question and I think he’ll do it.

The Dline will be filthy once again thanks to the great coach G. The Dline will be just as productive but with less star power and much of it being our great depth, somewhat like Georgia did last season, Big Kat TD and Hall will handle the pass rush. All are capable of having breakout seasons which alone is good, any one if them taking a step forward makes the Dline that much more dominant. Also there’s a lot of talent at DE. Dre Butler told me on Twitter he’d be playing the first two downs outside then sliding inside for third down, I expect him and Handy to battle it out for the starting spot but what Butler did in one year at a high level juco leads me to believe he’ll muster out the starting role. Also I think ppl forgot how good Wooden was, Clemson wanted him very badly and when you watch him film you see why, he can rush the passer and is excellent at keeping in his lane. He and walker will battle it out to be next in the lineup. I expect the interior to do a lot of damage. They’re guys that can disrupt in the pass game too, Truesdell showed he can be dominant at times as did Big Kat with his pass rush even though he didn’t finish the play. Instead of just flushing the QBs TD and Big Kat need to finish plays and the Dline will be the best in the nation 2 years running

The linebackers will be the strength as they should. Britt will be getting first round projections by mid season and Wooten will have a solid year as well. Pappoe and McClain are natural playmakers that will continue to make plays and the young depth on the roster will have a chance to develop better.

The secondary to me is a question mark that can easily be answered. At least 4 starters are set with Smoke Sherwood Tutt and McCreary. I think Domio who is built much like Noah has the ability to step in and play right away. His stats don’t blow you away but he’s a lockdown corner. He makes a play on the ball when tested even though he barely had ints he was still rated a 4star bc watching him you can tell he’s a talented corner who controls his side of the field. Barrett will be a backup option, I don’t really expect him to push for a starting job but if he does I think he definitely has the ability to become at least a decent corner to help in the rotation. I also had the thought if Tennison was to beat our Tutt at nickel would Tutt move to the other CB spot?? Peters is another player that can help at corner if the freshman aren’t ready to step up just yet but I think Thompson Jr and Tennison will make the biggest impacts on defense as freshman along with Z. Walker

Carlson will take care of the kicking duties. Evan I’m sure will take over kickoffs to lessen the load on Carlson. I think Daniel will punt as well unless there’s a graduate punter signed.

This as all of course subject to change if players leave out or transfer in, and hopefully not but if injuries accrue. Please tell me your expectations for the team next season.

Our secondary is going to be garbage, and if we don’t have an elite pass rush to help alleviate it.. our defense is going to be way worse

OP, didn’t care to read all of it, but I noticed from the first two or three lines in each paragraph of the novel the optimism gushing over in each position group.

This is a real masterpiece.

I’ve had a debatably large amount of cough medicine for my stature so I’ll go ahead and give this a shot

quote:

WR H- Hill

Allegedly moving to the secondary. Haven’t seen anything else on that since it was mentioned but I’d pencil him in a little further down.

Also on the receivers, word is that Nix prefers the tall guys. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Canion, JJ, and Capers get a lot of opportunities early. I imagine Nix wants at least one of those guys to step up and stay out there along with Seth.

As Janga mentioned, this is a rosy analysis. I’ll be really surprised if the DL doesn’t drop off at least a little. DL works in a unit much like the OL but the disruption component allows guys like Brown to really make a stamp on a game. I don’t think we have an obvious guy like that on this year’s DL.

Secondary - Domio still has some work to do in the classroom. Hope we got the right guy there.

On the OL, I have a feeling Osborne finds his way to a starting spot. Agree that the new OL has a chance to be better as a whole even if the individual pieces aren’t as talented. It’s just a low bar to clear, though, if we’re being honest.

Gonna wrap this up on a weird note. Gus, in a rare moment of transparency, admitted they were caught off guard by Siposs declaring. Motherfricker got his green card, made it to the outback bowl for the long awaited bloomin’ onion, and called it a career. Gus couldn’t even come up with a vanilla plan for the kickers. Just said they’ve talked about it and aren’t ready to comment.

I’d guess McGuire ultimately does kick offs (McGuire said he will) AND handle punting. We’ll see. Maybe Gus has another card to play there

Just a couple things. Deal will be at H-Back not Fromm. Fromm is more WR then TE kind of like Sal. I expect Deal to be the surprise of the TE/H-Back group.

I’d expect Osborne to work at tackle early but win the RG guard spot. I’m with you on Hamm at RT. Jones and Manning will battle it out at LG and the Lord only knows what happens at LT.

WRs outside of Seth will be whoever puts in the work. Who shows they can make plays in practice whoever that is will be on the field. You’re very high on Stove it appears but I’m not that high on him to play outside isn’t the blocker you need he’s much more effective out of the slot. Var Johnson might still be another year away unless he really has put in work in his redshirt season. He was probably 160 lbs was when he came to AU. He will see the field just not sure I’d put him number 2 at the small slot.

I’ve said before I expect Hudson his first year to split duties. WR and QB. Probably a redshirt season but expect him to get enough reps at QB to have an emergency package.

Reed or someone will have to move to safety. Brown will definitely not be ahead of Steiner. As far as the DL with as many new guys coming in expecting to make a contribution there is no way to tell right now who comes in physically and mentally ready not only for the competition but also of coach G’s coaching. He expects very high standards and allows for zero loafs even during drills. So we will see how the defense works itself out.

I to love talking projection of players but we should know much more as spring practice gets started and start hearing some rumors of the new comers that are putting in the work in the weight room.

I appreciate the effort but any real analysis that does not conclude that the offensive line will be one of the 3 worst units in the conference is comical.

Despite this fact, we will still run 99.7% dive plays up the middle on 1st down.

Sharife Cooper, PG.

22-3 gets me interested in the roster.

9-4, not so much.

Is Jalyn Green possible?

When is Stretch going to get in some games?
Turbo at the 2 some?

Maybe he should start another "Everybody knows more than the head coach" thread.

Why do you care? At least he spent some time posting something of his own and not something he read on another board and just reposted as his own.

I think Gus was right when he talked about it being a good year to have a new OC and a new OL coach. I hope he'll let those guys do their thing, and if so we should really see some interesting things come out of spring practice.

There are a few guys I'm most interested in seeing in spring. The guys that look like they have bodies most ready to contribute early are Tank, Pegues on O and Zy Walker on D.

I share the OP's optimism, but then again I'm always optimistic in the Spring.

I’ve been there before Lanier. The sunshine pumper the Gus supporter. I refuse to let it get under my skin anymore. What will happen will happen. One day Gus will be gone for whatever reasons and Auburn will continue. Will we be as good maybe. Will we better maybe. Will we be worse maybe. No one knows. All I know is that Gus seems to run a clean and tight ship doesn’t nothing to embarrass the programs and generally has us in the conversation most years for division championships.

When you play 3 teams that “out talent” you every year and you yourself are recruiting as the highest rate in the history of the program then it’s awfully scary thought of what could be. Is Gus a great coach probably not. Is he a good coach probably. Is he a bad coach not at all. At any time we could be Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee with the wrong guy. Can we be Bama? Maybe but we have 100 years of history that says we won’t be. It’s hard to believe for some of the younger folks that we just started playing our rivals on our own campus in the 80’s. Not saying that’s an excuse but this championship or bust mentality is kind of crazy and leads to a lot of disappointment. I want to compete every year for one but that isn’t realistic even for the bests of programs.

I know the but Clemson theory. It has required VT, FSU, UNC, Miami to all be down at the same time for them to do what they have done. Now they are recruiting at the level to sustain but outside of the 2013 season and FSU there has been nothing but garbage in the ACC. Keep marching on soldier but it comes with many attacks and the base is completely divided. Mob rules and all.

To follow up an explain the talent gap for this past season we’re the 13th most talented team in the country but compared to our rivals I tried to break it down a little further. We know not all 4 stars are created equal. For the big boys in the conference I apply a different kind of metric. I would say for the heavy hitters a 247 score of .9200 is probably an SEC level starter. Anything below is more depth and generally to find an impactful starter below that number is kind of unexpected. Anyway here are the numbers for some teams we played this year of the amount of players each of those teams had of players rated .9200...

Bama 54
UGA 47
LSU 36
Auburn 23
Florida and aTm low 20’s along with us.

You tell me if there is a major talent difference?

So you just expect for Nix to easily pass for more yards than any QB in our 100+ years of football? You expect over 4000 if all goes as planned... Nevermind the most anyone has ever passed for at Auburn (D.Craig) passed for like 3200 yards. These both seem totally legit.

quote:

As for receivers I expect Seth to be a top receiver in the league next season with around 700-1k yards.

You realize that Waddle, Pickens, and JaMar Chase are all back dont you? And you think Seth will be the top WR in the league with less than 1000 yards? LoL Mmmmmk Skippy. As for his yards... We have had 2 different 1000 yard WRs in our entire history of football.

quote:

The Dline will be just as productive

You serious Clark? You dont lose talents like 3 and 5 and not have any drop off.

Carlson will take care of the kicking duties. Evan I’m sure will take over kickoffs to lessen the load on Carlson. I think Daniel will punt as well unless there’s a graduate punter signed.

You realize Daniel hasnt been on the team a couple of seasons right? I get how brothers can be confusing...but come on...

Are you certain that you didnt mean to post this on AUFamily? This post would fit in exceptionally over there.

You must not have paid attention this past season. Because we absolutely didnt run on 1st at that rate this past season. Prior to 2019 you would be absolutely correct. 2019 that changed.
