I'll take that to play basketball for a few months a year as a living

Some guys would prefer to relish being a star at a big college for as long as they can. Jared seems like a guy that really loves being at Auburn. I wouldn't blame him for leaving and would wish him all the luck in the world, but he doesn't seem like he would leave early to go overseas. Guess we'll find out soon enough though

Jared went to the NBA Evaluations after last season to see where he stood with the league and where he needed to improve to get in the league. He may love AU, but I'm sure he'd love to be in the NBA more.

Unless he grows 5 inches next season, he gains nothing NBA-wise by staying at AU.

Playing overseas isn't going anywhere.

Would anyone be honestly arguing that it would be better for a football player to leave early to go play in the CFL in the same scenario? They would get laughed at.

We aren't arguing he would.

That’s a terrible argument. Pro football and pro basketball aren’t comparable in that regard.

It's not unheard of but it's still fairly rare that a player leaves school to go overseas to play basketball. When it does happen it's usually motivated by grades which I wouldn't think Jared would be struggling with.

Not really. Different sure, but not to the extent that I would ever expect someone to reasonable argue leaving college early with the only goal being to play in a developmental league or lesser pro league with the hope of one day playing yourself into an NFL/NBA roster is a good idea.

No shite. However there still isn't a great difference in the rate of a non-drafted football player going to CFL and eventually making it to the NFL as there is in a non-drafted basketball player going overseas and eventually making an NBA roster.

Either scenario, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to leave school early for either route.

I can name hundreds of kids who leave school early and don't get drafted and make a GREAT living overseas. Leagues in Spain, Italy, Russia, China, Turkey, Greece pay great money. Put you up in a home, put your kids/family in school, AND the money is tax free.

You all are really downplaying overseas ball.

I'm not. Not at all. I've just yet to see anyone post a single reason why leaving early, if that is the goal, is worth it.

Name 5 that I've heard of that weren't grade risks. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but those are the exceptions not the norm

Tucker seems to be blowing up. Would be a great get. The numbers game in college hoops is so difficult cause oftentimes you don’t really know if there’s a scholly available until it’s too late

Being a B-ball player on scholarship at Auburn is roughly the same worth that salary playing in Europe.

It really just boils down to JHs personal preference. Does he want to stay at AU, be a living legend on campus, perhaps win some national awards/recognition but have the threat of injury while marginally improving his draft stock. Or does he want to go overseas, make a decent living, play against pretty good competition and travel the world and still only marginally improving his odds at the NBA?
