Is it true the staff cost Asa Martin a redshirt year by accident?

BM posted a breakdown. Essentially said Martin played a total of 14 snaps over 5 games, in the Arkansas game he only played 1 snap.

Last week the coaches planned to redshirt him but that they failed to realize he already played too much

If true, that should be a just cause for firing. Asa may have saved us a lot of money!

I doubt they overlooked something like that, as many staff people as they have

How many staff members does it take to quit running hurry up first down runs up the middle? Cause we seem to be overlooking that, amongst other things..

Been reported by both 247 & Rivals so I suspect it's true

I'm guessing he wasn't supposed to play that ST snap against ARK

So dumb

If true, he should get the majority of the snaps for the rest of the season...this Simple Jack coach owes him that much.

The staff can’t be that incompetent, right? Never mind.

Technically they didn't cost him a redshirt year, they cost him a redshirt in his FRESHMAN year.

He can redshirt in any year.

But, yeah, I understand the overall point... if you're not gonna play him his freshman year then that's the year you use his redshirt rather than expend a year of eligibility. I get that.

I have no idea why he is not getting more of a look at running back. Malik just does not look to have it. Kam is a situational back at best. They should give the kid 10-15 carries and see what he can do.

No. This wouldn’t amount to just cause. You guys have rally need to brush up on your just cause law. :)

Lighten up, Francis. It was a joke, not legal advice.

Agreed. Let's see what the kid can do. Hell, he might save your job another GusShortBus

This is what Gus does. He takes explosive talented playmakers and forces them into certain roles. If someone is already in that role then they wait they're turn.

Can you imagine how badass Ryan Davis could be in an offense where he got more than screen passes?

What could of been with Roc Thomas and Devan Barret if they'd been allowed to do more than the occasional swing pass?

How about NCM being given more routes instead of asking to block and run streaks.

The whole thing is mind boggling and talent is suffering because of it. Mathew Hill may as well hang his cleats up because he won't get a snap anytime soon with Schwartz being our "fast guy"

No but if we negotiate a buyout and/or for PR, a collection of things like this, if true, would be useful.

The PR hit from buying Gus out isn't really being discussed. We're going to be absolutely skewered if it happens. I'm still a long way from convinced that it's even possible, but it'll be major newspaper fodder, I bet.

Pitched as "mediocre college pays 50 million dollars to get rid of a coach in an era of rising tuition and starving players." I'm not saying we shouldn't do it, but it's going to SUCK

That short lived PR will pass by once a new hire is made. Whereas, keeping Gus continues the bad PR for another 3 years.

Exactly. I rather take the hit now hold together a top 20ish recruiting class and make a splash hire. We'll be back on track in no time with a positive outlook.
