We lost 3 NFL DL last year. It happens. We were young this year and Big Kat never developed. We had Covid and preseason injuries to some of the young guys. Miller went psycho in preseason practice justified or not but can't have players trying to fight coaches or whatever happened. DL will be fine. Obviously we need to close with some players any DE either weakside or strongside would round out another solid DL class.

I never ever understand the media picking Kat 1st team D. He had some qualities, yes, but never in his time on the field did he show any consistency to being the best at his position.

The only DL player I saw improve was Wooden who showed glimpses of speed and pressure w TFLs.

Truesdale seemed ehhh.
Duqirk at times showed his burst of power and TFL but got pushed back too many times on power play runs.

Ends...Kat,Hall, and lets not forget TD, never helped enough on end pressures.

I thought Wooden and Hall both showed some growth toward the end of the season

Hall improved this year. Should be solid going forward. We need an elite edge rusher but we also need a push in the middle. Miller was that guy. Truesdell just did his job. He ate up 2 blockers in the middle on every play. That's the 1-Tech's responsibility. He was solid just had to play way to many snaps because of injuries and youth behind him. Newkirk would have been the backup for both Miller and Truesdell this season and you would have see much better play interior. I expect Wooden to be at the 3Tech next year if he puts on more good weight and we play an even front. On an odd front he's obviously a DE.

That's why our DC must be able to work with an even front even if he is an odd front guy. Our roster has no true 0-tech guys and not enough long big outside backers to play off the edge. Our Bucks are supposed to be that but they are basically just WDE's. They rarely drop or play in coverage.

I think overall management (or lack of) can be placed on Gus. No edge rusher for years and not having a viable replacement for guys leaving in year 8 is inexcusable. Somehow he wanted to be a ball control O without a strong D. He reverted to a Tuberville lite.

I think Coach G put too much faith on a couple guys the last couple yrs and it bit us.

Think, DB should have left a yr earlier, so there is really no excuse we could not replace him.

We had replacements. Truesdell, Newkirk, Miller (kicked off team), Burks (injury), Butler (injury). Butler made some plays late in the year. Coach G had no idea he'd be hit with Covid outbreak in preseason and his 2 new guys would get injured or that he'd have to kick Miller off for fighting with a coach. I think ya'll forget how good Miller was at the end of last year. That's the way it goes some times. Coach G is one of the best DL coaches in the business. It's up to Coach Harsin to decide if he should stay or not and I'll support the new coach either way. But to diss on G for 1 year where we are slightly down on the DL is goofy. And he is still bring in 2 very good DT's in this class. If there wasn't uncertainty around the staff he would have got the kid that went to UF at Buck and Brooks flip from UT. So 2 boarder line 5 stars and 2 solid 4 stars for 4 positions. Ya'll would consider that a miracle on the OL if that happened.

Exactly! Not to mention that juco player that eventually signed with Tenn, Byron Young. This DL class would have been very solid!

I hear ya and he has been a big reason for our success. However, Corynis was not consistent and we knew that risk. Coach G was caught with his pants down.

Everyone dealt with COVID amd the same things we have

It absolutely IS recruiting. Always is!

Gus (or Garner if you’d like to place blame as he’s the recruiting coordinator) haven’t signed a good DT since Derrick Brown. The DT is a huge part of the 4-2-5 defense.

I felt for so long that this defense was never able to find a replacement for DB, in multiple cycles. T-Will did great at LB and Crime has done very well in secondary, but the DL has really underperformed this year and it’s solely because of recruiting and not finding replacements for Brown, Russell, Davidson.

I love Derrick Hall too. He should be so much better. He just needs some help and he’d put up Mario Holland like numbers.

We all know it starts with the line on offense, I guess the most frustrating part is, even if we do begin to recruit well there, that is next year's recruits, and banning signing some cant miss fellas, we are at least three years from a good line, and in the meantime it will be very difficult to recruit skill players to play behind our current product at that position. Anyone seen who Alabama signed.....

Number one OT
Number two OT
Number one Center
Number two Guard
Number 14th guard, Jaeden the best fella we would have gotten before he visited Alabama.

We have a long way to go to become competitive in the SEC.

That why he HAS to find Grad transfers and any type of transfer that can play right away.

To run his offense as versatile as he wants it, he needs good solid OL.

And yet in year 8 of a program, ALL he had was two 3 stars to start and play all year long at DT. Are you on his payroll? Why else would you continue to defend that clown how had Auburn DL getting blown 5 yards back against UGa?

Time to debunk some fake news about RG,,,
Copied from a post I composed about a week ago.,

It's time to put the RG stuff away and look at the real stats..
Since he has been back...

13 players to the NFL
6 all SEC players
3 All Americans
On the next level
17 pro bowl berths
9 All Pro's
9 Super Bowl players

247's #4 recruiter for 2020
He has signed 38 total dls 27 rated 4 star or higher in his 8 recruiting classes. Info gained from a Montgomery Advertiser story.

Brannigan’s issue has been pressure from the ends. It’s a very specific complaint but feels warranted

I think UGA has had 1 DL drafted since Garner arrived. It has been a pretty good run for us and there’s valid complaints about the Garner lines but they’ve been some of the best we’ve had

Yeah, the two problems with Garner are consistency with getting defensive line talent, and having decent pass rush. We'll have great DL classes bookended by a class where we miss on everyone and a class where the guys bust, which leads to where we are now.

Though the pass rush from the ends could be fixed by having Garner just coach the tackles and have a specific pass rushing/ends coach, as I don't think it's a lack of raw talent issue there.
