Anyone else finding this.
To watch the 10 minute highlight reel takes me twice that long because I have to toggle back and forth from the roster page because of all the new fellas

What a plethora of riches at safety. New boy and Winters are as billed. Kaleb Harris sat out but we know what we have. Now this Gaskin kid who seemed to be an afterthought from USF is a pleasant surprise.
And the light seems to be flickering on finally with Jacoby Mathews. That kid was a five star and a freshman AA at A&M. And then just fell off the face of the earth. Durkin goes and gets him last year.....and nothing.
Now it sounds like he had a good spring and a good A day. Ive heard on podcasts that Durkin himself has been on him pretty hard in practice. I can imagine the conversations. You have all the talent in the world, this is your senior season, redeem yourself. And by the way, me bringing you in and you doing nothing sure is making me look foolish for trusting in you. Good for Jacoby sounds like its working.

And we had Athletic Directors that didn’t pay attention.
Hopefully the right one is place. Look at what happened after Pat and Terry graduated. Suddenly Auburn abandoned the passing as goes three yards, cloud of dust, punt and wear the opponents down. Read the stats on 1972 and you’re lucky to throw four passes in a football game. Lucky to complete two. But the belief of the team in the system amounted to the success of that team.
My Senior year of high school was a success because I a QB Coach fort the time. West Point grad, QB for West Point. First ball game trailing by 4 in the third quarter. Came off the field after two dropped passes and a failed run. Punt team came in, I had gone to the sideline took off my helmet and my cup of Gatorade. Punt is made, ball killed six inches from the goal line. “Glenn get your butt over here and bring your helmet. On the first play they will fumble and you going to run the goose.” He predicted exactly as it happened. I stood looking at him with my mouth open. “Go run what I told you” The goose is simple hands under center, apply pressure, snap without a cadence…..only two people move on the field. We had talked about but never practiced the play. Call a normal play in the huddle go out and run as a surprise. When the ball was snapped and Bob and I took off, I looked to right and the Defensive tackle look up with an “Aw Chit” look on his face. At that moment the entire season was changed. I believed the man walked on water. Minutes later in the series, threw a 20 yard touchdown pass to seal the win. I believe if something happens to cause the team as a whole to buy into your intentions, you can beat giants.
it’s been too long since Gus caused the initial downward slide and compromise following that to Harsin and Freeze. The budget doesn’t matter. The success must be in the hearts of the troops being led. I took those lessons from that football and applied it to every step of my career and it served me well. My sales staffs were always successful. Sometimes you need to get rid of dead wood. You replace them with energetic enthusiastic up and coming leaders.
The task at hand, are the pieces long ago missing coming together? Time will tale the story.

No, ….we lost.
Based on the QB1 play we are in for another losing season. Brown had MANY poor throws and then his upbeat attitude after the game was like he did not recognize how badly he played.
I did like QB2 Tia, he threw on-time and accurately.
I am really sick of how bad the QB play at Auburn has been for the past 5-10 years.

I wouldn’t get all worried about an A-Day game practice. Lot of the same things were said about Cam in 2010 spring game.

I’m not worried at all but comparing to Cam is apples to oranges. Cam was in the Gus system for 3 months whereas Brown has been in the system 3+ years.

Brown has all the tools. He was slinging it 65 yards in warm up. He has nice touch too. He just gets lazy on his mechanics when things break down. His mobility will be a huge part of his game and he couldn't use any of it yesterday.

I’ve watched the Georgia and a&m spring games and a good bit of Florida and Bama. Everyone had some pretty sloppy play, OL’s struggling pretty badly and QB’s struggling and 3 of those 4 are all in the same system. Definitely not worth overreacting to a spring game. We definitely have a long, long way to go, but the struggles yesterday have not been unique to us.

I just continue to be skeptical that you can skirt having top linemen with the newest flavor of the month spread scheme... but Auburn has been committed to this way of thinking since Tony Franklin came to town. We are still hurting on top talent, offensively, so I hope this "scheme" has more answers than the last two or three.

quote:He got lucky to find out how much work it takes to play with the big boys... would of sucked for him to excel yesterday.
Byrum’s very first drive he missed one throw down the seam, was a difficult throw/window and he missed safely. Then overthrew Nimrod on a deep sideline route that he abused the CB. Looked like he may have checked up at first. First drive was cooking until then. He had some really dumb throws but had some good placement on others.

I will add I love Golesh so far. He is a fit with us and I get Dye/Tub vibes. Just a no nonsense guy and you feel it.

I'm just glad we finally have a QB.
