Can anybody make sense of this?

The team didn't even look like Freeze's. The feeding Singleton past the LOS was entirely unique.

That what people need to keep in mind. Vandy D didnt prep for a lot of what they saw. Of course we had more success on O. And the D suffered because dirk wasnt focused on it.

I don't think that Freeze was sandbagging to get a buyout as some sort of master-plan to retire.

One thing that needs to be brought up is that before he was hired here he inked a new extension with Liberty that went till ~2030 and had a total compensation of something like ~$40 million. That is more money than he ultimately "stole" from Auburn.

So if his grand plan was to coast and get fired, he could have just stayed at Liberty and done the same and made even more money in the process.

He was just a bad coach who overestimated his capability and didn't realize that he was now lazy and 10+ years behind the curve of the rest of the league.

I heard a really good point the other day. The scandals at Ole Miss made him a better man, but it made him a worse coach. He has given people a lot of grace, probably too much. There are guys on the coaching staff that should have been gone a long time ago and players that have started, especially at QB, for much longer than they should have. I do think that the cancer diagnosis also changed him and put the larger picture in perspective. I don’t think he quit on the team, I just don’t think his heart was in it anymore.

That doesn’t excuse terrible in game strategy and coaching, but I am grateful for one reason. Our roster has been upgraded significantly, and that does make this a more attractive job than it was 3 years ago.

Wondering how much of the recruiting and roster management success were related to the front office and recruiting infrastructure outside of HF. I don’t know just wondering because of his laziness in performing HC and OC responsibilities along with lack of intensity.

Washed up seems to fit. His almost depressively low energy on the sideline infected the team.
