I knew Bama and UGA pushes us around, but when Northwestern pushed us around I was disappointed.

How do you build a program where the linemen control or at least get a stalemate at the line of scrimmage?

I assume recruiting is part of it, however, development seems extremely important as well.

Any names for offensive line coach floating around?

Antler spray

Only name I’ve seen is the Boise State Oline coach who looked like he had an impressive resume

We got pushed around by UCF and Minnesota too.

A lot of it is mentality but, as has been discussed ad nauseam on here, our biggest issue is lack of quality on the OL and this year the DL as well.

Sign more 5 star o linemen. It’s that simple.

Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t think our teams under malzahn have been “soft”. He have a talent gap on oline and need a change in offensive system.

Have more OL bigger then 305. If you are 6'7" 305 you are fairly lean for a lineman. If you are 6-5 or taller I'd say at the SEC level you should be around 320 but with good power. The only "large" lineman we have is really Ke. Jones and he's very young.

Don't put much on the DL in the NW game. I don't even remember seeing Truesdell or Newkirk playing. Maybe they did but I didn't notice. I saw Walker, Butler, and Jer. Wright play at DT more then anyone. The linebackers and safeties played incredibly physical.

I know Wright moved over just for emergency in the middle of the season because Butler and Burks were injured but he looked pathetic on the mush rush against NW. Definitely needs to lose weight and work on his hips for explosiveness. We will see if he stays there with the new staff.

I'll give you Bama and UGA. But they have some very impressive athletes. Still our first teamers should be able to at least hold up early. They did not this year.

Randy I agree. The most surprising was the Minnesota game for me. I had no idea really what was happening this year. But the players last year at least talked up going out strong and our real players played last year.

I think Gus had an approach to bowl games that just didn't work. Not sure what it is. But we've saw it his entire career here even as an OC. We struggled against a mediocre defense in Oregon.

I think it had to do with the "eye candy" just didn't move people much in teams that had time to prepare against Gus. Just like UGA and LSU over the past few years. They were able to work on AU for multiple weeks because of other teams posed no threat to them. Bama I think we had success against because Saban I think truly takes each game at a time. That's why teams rarely sneak up and bite them.

Justin Ferguson wrote an article about this on the Auburn Observer this morning.

AU’s OL recruiting has been abysmal compared to all other teams within the blue chip ratio. We’re at 20% BCR when looking at the OL which is the worst by far of any team whose overall BCR is above 50%.

We lose the LOS because we have no talent. We’ve only signed 1 blue chip OL recruit in like 3 years.

Last time we signed a blue chip OT? Calvin Ashley? It’s been a long time. We’ve failed massively in this area and it has set us back 5 years.

And I think a lot of that was the knock on Malzahn’s offense not preparing Oline for the NFL

I don’t buy this at all.

Primary reason Gus is gone IMO. Not sure how an "offensive genius" overlooked the most fundamental position in all of football.

Scheme is a lot of it too, how many times did we pull a tackle or guard and let the other teams best D player run free. Also the zone blocking never really worked as we ended up having linemen just standing around and one guy trying to block two.

I think Gus struggled on every front (recruiting, development) with OL, but I also think every program negatively recruited against us with OL talent pool saying they’d never get to the NFL. We haven’t put many in the league, and whether Gus’a style of offense itself limited development, I don’t know, but that was certainly the perception with recruits.

Losing Britt and not really having a true MLB backup killed us in the middle this year. Our interior DL got pushed around often, but having a true MLB would have helped. Pappoe and Mclain are very good LB's, but they get abused by pulling OL, TE's, etc.

While talent is one thing, even with guys that aren't as talented, they can still play physical. A lot of that is mindset and conditioning. I don't know enough about either of those with our team to speak on it, but it seemed like we had guys that just didn't really want it this year.

And often our OL just looked like they weren't really sure what they were supposed to do. I can't remember how many times after plays you'd see one OL looking at another after a busted play and could just tell they were saying..."Was I supposed to pick him up? I thought you were supposed to pick him up." It's also easier to seem like your more physical when you're executing like you should be. We haven't done a good job of that in several years.

You realize that three four stars, two three stars, two transfer and Defensive linemen were the entire Offensive line roster? I may be off one or two but not by much.

Not one five star and actually no four stars at those positions. You cannot build consistency with the lack of talent.

Against NW we had seven reported starters out and two additional reports of not dressed out. Guess they wanted the Halloween bag of goodies and went a long for the ride.

And we still had people supporting Gus. Pathetic.
