They also don’t play in the hyper competitive west.

Like I've said in another post, if Auburn can at least split between UGA/Bama, and look like a team going down swinging even in defeat, I'll shut up for the time being. Call it false hope, but I actually saw some growth in the playbook against A&M, which could bode well for us if Gus remembers using 'em again moving forward. Yes, I know it was A&M and not the #1 & #2 teams in the nation, but they were fairly high-percentage plays that could take some heat off the pass rush...

No proven, slam-dunk coach in their right mind is going to want to come here.
Mainly because such a creature doesn't exist. Sure, there's a lot of guys with upside who may seem like homerun hires, but none of them are "proven".

But as long as Kirby is at GA
He's been a HC for all of 16 months and 22 games. At this point in his AU career, Gustav was 19-3 and had AU in the AP top 10 for 19 consecutive polls. It's a little early to make these kind of judgements on Kirby.

But he recruits well, has ran a clean program, and has shown a willingness to make necessary changes. We have the best defense of my lifetime. We're alive in November.
I concur, and these are the main reasons that I'm not sold on the idea of dumping him, but at the same time he has repeatedly shown a tendency to make poor personnel decisions that take the team out of contention.

I've resigned myself to the conclusions drawn by other posters here, now is not the time to cut our losses with Gustav and take a chance with another roll of the dice, particularly in light of our ongoing disaster at the top of the Athletic Dept. So the Malzahn Era gets another year, no matter what happens on the field between now and January.

All we can do at this point is hope for the best.

I said this last year, but Gus is like a guy who follows you around & cock-blocks every woman you seem to have a chance with...

You're right. Too early to tell on his career. My point though, is that the only team capable of challenging Kirby for the East for the foreseeable might be SC. He might not ultimately be a consistent top ten coach, but with the rest of the dumpster fire in that division, we're likely going to have to play GA twice for a while if we want to go to the top.

In any case, I believe we are on the same page. War Eagle

Drives me crazy everyone has assumed Smart is the next Saban. He's no doubt recruited well & has dogs looking good this year but I need to see if he can win anything before crowning him. Also maintaining a great program isn't easy either (as we AU fans know so well). Smart at least has benefit of a shitty division but here's to hoping Tennessee & Florida get their acts together soon

Difference is we were injured those years. For the first time since 2013, we are coming into amen corner somewhat healthy

It's interesting. This is probably the best of the 3 teams, perhaps.

Of course, we're playing the hardest remaining schedule of any of those slates

It’s Gus fault a kid freaks out under the lights? Have you ever played sports? Nothing a coach can do about this in most cases. Even Manning had the chokes in big games.

Injuries right before Amen corner would doom most teams. Dumb to think otherwise.

I’m not blaming fans just acknowledging that most don’t really understand the game. If you’ve never played your opinion means little.

It shows the sec is a mess. A reason alabama and georgia waltzed through their schedule.

Also interesting, it's a big rivalry week and all the focus here is on whether the coach will frick it up or not and not any xs and os talk.

bullshite. He can recruit other players. Or actually learn how to run a proper practice to see what your qbs can under pressure instead of goddamn walk-throughs.

Also you act like Johnson if the first of Gus' qb blunders. He certainly was not. But Gus got away with it because people like you gave him a pass

I believe we have the edge in talent and would win with a decent coach, but Gus at the helm makes me have a pessimistic view about the game.

All facts, TAMU is a shitty team that we struggled against in the first half. Take away the sequence of events at the end of the first half and we are fighting for our lives at the end of the game.
