Mike G confirmed with the WRs that Hooks ran the route 2 yards short on the over throw.

By the time he completes the route after cutting it 2 yards short could throw where he’s supposed to be about 5 yards or so. Posted this in the pre snap what QB is doing thread but only X and O geeks probably read that.

That’s why Thorne looks “unsure”. I’m sure some WRs are getting an arse chewing this week and either you get it or you don’t get on the field.

Fair must be the best route runner because Thorne throws to him a lot.

Fairweather would have caught the ball Hooks missed. I Thorne gets the ball to where Fairweather can put his fingertips on it he's going to pull it in. It's going to be fun watching him snag balls out of the air.

dont trust anyting the fan Mike G says ( he still think Robby is best QB as well as TJ vs BO) but what play is he referencing?

How did he “confirm” this?

I don’t keep up with the Mike G guy, but seems like is frequently wrong about things from what I see posted here.

Mike G is completely unreliable when it comes to his own analysis, but he and TWR crew are very connected to the players themselves. So he could have spoken to players and gotten the confirmation.

It’s just a weird observation, maybe Hooks did run the route “short”, but he found an open pocket in the coverage that may not have been there if he runs the route deeper. Growing pains of new QB and receivers.

Mike G does frequent player interviews but he has an agenda and he has fallen on his face a shite ton.

If someone wants to delve much deeper into that agenda they can but it's irrelevant.

G does get good information so I wonder where he was at when Auburn players were showing Harsin "fake support" during the scandal. You know, when players like Tank were strong armed into public support.

thus Freeze's comments about receivers not running routes right and MISSING LANDMARKS

I think this is what he will continue working on with this group who have officially been together 4 weeks now

That’s not how offense works. The QB throws the ball many times before the WR is at their spot

It depends on option routes responsibilities right.

We have guys learning a ton. Slot guy has to know when to sit or if to keep digging to a next patch of green grass. Likewise, QB has to know what our WR is seeing and and then the QB can air mail it to him in stride. Its a chemistry thing.

We have been basic. We also haven’t had any outside WR step up.

When it clicks it will click. We also know that an upgrade in talent at WR, QB, DL are needed for the future. Rebuild season regardless of how many portal players we brought in

It is kind of a silly point to try and make at this point. To think we have any large portion of the passing scheme fully installed is pretty absurd. The personnel aren't understanding it right now. To say he doesn't like the scheme, but ignoring the fact that the players are still learning/trying to even understand it is pretty obtuse.

Coaches are having to go as basic as they possibly can because QB's and WR's aren't close to on the same page.

On the OP's point, all we can safely say is Thorne saw one thing and Hooks another and acted accordingly. This is the main problem with this offensive scheme, when you aren't on the same page. Everyone praises the scheme when it is clicking. We just have a group that have barely been together. Part of the growing pains.

In Ole Miss’s first two games in 2012 under new HC Hugh Freeze (Central Arkansas, UTEP), Ole Miss QBs threw 67 passes and completed 51. That season, in 13 games played, Ole Miss QBs attempted 410 passes and completed 261.

In Auburn’s first two games this year (UMass and Cal). AU QBs have thrown 42 passes and completed 24. Extrapolated out to a 12 game season those numbers would be 252 pass attempts to 144 completions.

Prior to Freeze and 2012, Ole Miss went 4-8 in 2010 and 2-10 in 2011. Is Auburn’s QB and WR room really that much less football-smart than that 2012 Ole Miss team that came into 2012 having gone 6-18 over the previous two seasons? I guess the only logical answer to my question is yes.
