In my years as a Auburn guy I have not seen Auburn fans act like they have with him. It’s more like what Georgia fans have done over the years. It’s really pathetic

I think you are being sensitive. Fans have been chewing coaches asses for years and Gus is no different. Hell, Chizik got it worse than anyone

He absolutely had flaws but brought most of us, the best memories as a Auburn fan that we ever had. Without the old typical “Auburn” issues. Clean program.
If running a squeaky clean program is your goal, Gus is your man. If winning championships and consistent results on the field, he isnt.

I will be pulling fir him as I do all the X Auburn coaches and players.

We get it. You love Gus and hate the rest of us dont.

I don’t get bothered by the Gus bashing over his coaching myself. That happens a lot and I don’t even pay attention to it anymore. I don’t like the bashing of his character. He doesn’t deserve that type of bashing.

I hope everyone is OK.

Gus knows football games are won and lost but family is what is really important.

His offense won you the only championship you’ve ever experienced and if not for 2 plays by a bad defense, he would have brought you another. At the peak of the SEC At a place that Has not sniffed a championship in 50 years.. So please keep your ignorant remarks to a minimum

So, the family emergency was Gus's daughter having a baby?

Gus' daughter already had the baby. There apparently were complications days after the birth. His daughter had to be readmitted.

No need to go hyperbole. We had missed out on like 4-5 by razor thin margins between 57 and 10.

That said, I could not be more happy Gus isn't our head coach anymore but he is responsible for some amazing moments and he definitely seems like a good guy so I see no reason to constantly bring him up in a negative light.

That’s just incorrect.

I've said this before. Gus had/has a philosophy to be simple on offense so you could be full speed coming out of fall camp at every position. We have a guy now in Harsin (and Bobo) who don't share that same philosophy. So unless you're really advanced for a football player or dynamically athletic, you're going to watch for a season or two for alignment, assignment and techique. That's it. Its just two different approaches. IMO, at UCF and their conference, I think Gus' approach can be very successful. I'm suprised by their lack of success so far, but maybe if nothing else its an example for why Travis Williams wasn't retained? UCF is 119 in total defense, and they didn't lose alot. Plus they picked up one-sack Bryant, who's an NFL All-Pro in his own mind.

Stick the needle in my arm for the new staff at AU.

I couldn't agree more. At the end of the day, all you can ask out of the players is that they play hard for the coaching staff. Under Gus I thought we always did. There may be other factors that limit program upside but playing hard for Gus and staff was never one of them IMO.

I think the game has passed him by and he won't adjust, or can't adjust. The games evolves much faster than it used to. I don't expect him to have a lot of success going forward. That would have been us if we had stuck with him.

the ONLY time i remember his character being questioned is when he burned that RBs redshirt year and then never played him. He got hell for that one and justifiably so

It has absolutely passed him by. There is absolutely nothing interesting or novel about his offense anymore. He's still trying the same flawed principles that DC's already figured out ~3+ years ago. The team he took over even played "faster" on offense under Heupel (the one gimmick that Malzahn relied upon is now done better and more effectively by about a dozen+ other offensive minds) so I'm not sure what his draw is going to be at UCF.

The results we're seeing is exactly what I expected. UCF's defense was horrible last season and the idea that Travis Williams & David Gibbs were going to fix that was a joke from the start. They are as horrible defensively as I expected. And there is no Kevin Steele or 5-star DL talent to save him now. So you're seeing a team that is really bad defensively playing behind Malzahn's flawed and outdated offense that has been broken for a while now.

The cherry on top was his actually good inherited QB going down with an injury. He had a bit of wiggle-room in terms of inheriting someone else's already developed QB as he's benefitting from so many times in the past before, but that luck turned on him.
