Glad we will have a coach in place longer than 5 years.

I get not all of you are happy with the extension, but I like the opportunity we have for stability.

For me Gus has proven he can recruit and build a solid staff.
He has proven he can win and maybe he has a break through of consistently winning 10+ games?

Obviously he has some weaknesses but I am hoping he gets better with each season. I like this option rather than starting over again and watching everyone bitch and moan about the new guy in two years.

We aren't going to find perfect but Gus has accomplished more than most. I get he can be a frustrating SOB but I believe he has what it takes to be one of best coaches in Auburn history. I am on board for him to at least show me. Glad we aren't going through a new coaching transition.

I don't think there is a coach hired in the last few weeks that is a clear cut better hire than Gus. None that would be worth starting over anyway.

Ready set and go! Bitch away.

Hey, not funny! I strokes had minor two summer this.

I am getting better but it’s been a hell of a year. Heart and Lung failure, plus two strokes...I picked a bad year to quit sniffing glue.

I agree. We need some stability coaching wise. Before Gus we were usually 8-10 win program with some dark seasons wedged inbetween.

Gus problem is finding a quarterback and he has proven he can’t develop the ones he recruits from high school.

I just ask that he make Auburn football fun and generally competitive.

2014-2016 were not very fun years. They weren't nightmares, but they were dull.

Sometimes it won't be our day (SECCG). But recruit well, build solid teams and give them an identity, and we'll be competitive most of the time and that'll keep us in the hunt most years.

He coached his arse off the 2nd half of the season. Money well spent for the future “me thinks.”

He’s trending back in the right direction.

We had mental and physical fatigue from Amen Corner. I don’t think Saban wins the SECCG in that position honestly. That wasn’t S Carolina or Mizzou we were playing to get IN.

I am putting a lot of stock in his attitude change that we witnessed this year. I think adding stability and the addition via subtraction of Jacobs (in terms of Gus's mentality, at least) will only help. High job satisfaction is correlated with high performance and job security is certainly a factor with satisfaction.

2015-2016 for sure.

But 2014 was anything but dull

I'm coming to terms with the extension. I hope our new AD, whomever he/she will be, will make it clear that with above average compensation comes above average expectations.

But there lies the problem, his money is guaranteed whether he wins or not. I'm just not on board with the extension.

I'm on board with the extension, just not the amount. He's not worth that kind of money yet, but it's not my money they are wasting. This is just what happens wnen Jay Jacobs negotiates a contract.

While Jacobs has shown he's not great at this, Malzahn had all the leverage. Ark was going to back up the Brinks truck and we were on the tail end of the craziest coaching carousel in years. At that point, we either took a risk on an unknown head coach, or kept the one we had and tried to build stability. If we didn't offer something close to what Ark was willing to pay, I think he leaves and we start all over again and lose that stability. If you're going to be mad at anyone, be mad at Ark for drastically raising his asking price.

When you've had a coach for more then 3-4 years at this point in the game, I think you have to hitch your wagon to them and offer something longer than a 3 year deal to show them your serious about them being your guy. The market is dictating this with more and more longer term extensions we're seeing. If you don't do that for a coach that's been with you for more than a handful of years, they're going to see that as you not being willing to commit to them and they'll have no problem continuing to look around while they're coaching your team.

My hope is that Malzahn is learning from his mistakes and by us showing we're committed to him, he's not concerned with job security and he can wholly focus on doing what he needs to do to get us to the top. We've seen what he can do when he puts a great gameplan together - see uga and bama this year. My hope is that he's learning how to consistently do that. I think a longer term contract can help with that.

He had a pretty nice contract and threatening to fire him was the only way we got the results this year. He will be the same Gus out the door next season by dropping the game to UW in Atlanta and taking four games to figure out his team. Gus should be thankful for Auburn because we had made him and his family pretty secure. How about he return the favor and show us some love. I just don't see him as the long term solution.
