If he leaves he leaves. We’ll fare without him

If you didnt think he was going to leave, you are just kidding yourself. He was always going to leave as soon as he was not named the starter. I hope he plays out the year but it sounds like that may not happen

Like I said in the recruiting thread last week, I dont blame him for leaving and taking his shot somewhere else. If he ever has any expectations of playing football farther than the plains, its not going to happen sitting the bench or playing 10 snaps a game. He needs to be able to show what he can do on a regular basis and that apparently is not going to happen here

I also do not blame the coaching staff for not sending him in and out of the game. I personally hate a two QB system as I think it really messes up the flow of the game and the timing of the offense. You could see it a lot of times when Gatewood enters games for us. Not his fault, just changing things in mid stream is disruptive.

I hope he mans up and finishes out the season but if he doesnt, then good luck to him. He was my choice at the beginning of the season but I do believe they made the right decision on the starter. Bo has not been good. He has been terrible at times but hopefully, they will get it together.

I have 3 different feelings about this.

1. I'm pissed. Gus is too stupid to play the QB that fits his system and wins big with.

2. Gatewood would have saved Gus' job. Nix will end up helping him get fired this year or next.

3. I'll be happy for Joey, watching him put up Heisman numbers somewhere else, when he finally gets a fair chance. Then I'll be mad watching Nix struggle to complete 50% of his passes again next year, but at least we won't have to be upset knowing there is a better option on the sideline.

The vast majority of AU fans see this for what it is. Hopefully, the PTB are as fed up as the fans. I don't have any first hand knowledge from the movers and shakers, but I have heard from some middle-tier donors. They ain't happy.

Don't disagree with this for the most part.

People need to realize that Gus was NEVER going to change his mind on the QB. Just think about it. We know how stubborn he is already.

He officially takes over the play calling.
He names Nix the starter after both players were essentially 1a and 1b according to Gus.
If he was to sit Nix, play Gatewood 8 games in, then have Gatewood possibly show out, THEN he would look like a moron.

True.
We could finish 10-2.

Or 9-3
Or 8-4

It’s how we are losing that bothers people.
Gus calls the plays and picks the players.

His expertise is in question.

Good for Joey. Gus is shite and a liar. Gatewood has been loyal for years. I’ve never seen some of our fans shite on one of our players like the ones wishing him to transfer. They got their wish. Same with the AU beat writers bias, pumping Nix for click bait.... “next level critiquing”, “a legend is born.”

It sounds like it’s still up in the air but there’s no way he’s worse than the shite Nix has produced. Gus trying to hide behind the daddy Nix legacy. This is different than Fromm/Fields. Fromm didn’t make the huge amount of mistakes Nix has, he never earned a benching like Nix has.

Gus quit on Joey, I don’t blame him for leaving now.

I don't agree with him staying for the rest of the year. He doesn't owe Auburn anything. Heck, I would have probably left after I didn't win the starting job so I wouldn't waste a year of eligibility. He has to think about his career and mental sanity. I would go a little bit crazy everyday knowing Nix is the starter and wets the bed against good teams and knowing that I don't have any chance to start.

Surprised by the timing, no real reason for Gatewood to leave now except that he has lost total faith in the coaches. Leaving now or leaving at the end of the semester give him the same opportunities. He will have to sit out next year unless he gets a waiver either way.

No he doesn't. And let's not forget, Joey committed to Auburn at the end of his 9th grade year, was trying his best to help recruit others. Nix kept playing the recruiting game for a long time. Now who was more loyal to Auburn?

Really? He’s done everything he’s been asked to do. He’s a good teammate, has kept a good attitude, all while watching Nix stink it up, and still not getting a fair shot.

He had 33 offers, including Bama, Clemson, and the three P5 in his home state, and he trusted AU and Gus. I don’t know what Gus is thinking by sticking with Nix.

What does does any of this have to with being surprised by the timing?

Our SECCG and playoff chances are now shot after last weekend, he was pushed back to the bench last weekend by the coach that has been stringing him along. Losing to LSU was a big deal.

The timing makes sense. I doubt he wants to keep working hard when the coach showed he doesn’t have an interest in him any longer.

If Gus is not fired after this year he will be forced to hire an OC. Simple as that. And it will be someone that is good with QBs. Papa Nix is pissed

Pissed at his son?

This is the same Gus that we’ve known for 7 years. It’s not like Gus jumped out of his closet and yelled “surprise.“

Gus lacks vision...which is weird since at one point he was a visionary in football. #writersblock

I don't blame Joey, but I'd prefer he stay with the team and transfer after the season. IMO this is the action of a leader.

However, he is in a terrible situation. Coach says, "we have a 1a and a 1b!" You know he fed the same line of bull to Joey.

Then coach has no plan to use 1b consistently.

Then 1a plays poorly in more than one game and 1b still doesn't get a shot.

Then 1b has a skill set for a specific wildcat style responsibility and the coach without vision chooses a RB playing at 85% to run those plays.

It might not have made a difference but Joey should have had an entire series twice a game all season and likely should have played the majority of goal line and short yardage snaps. #peopleknewwhatwasingcomingwithCamanditdidn'tmatter

If that had happened Gus might have seen enough of Joey in live game scenarios to have the vision to trust going to him when 1a was failing against UF and LSU.
