Gus fricked Asa Martin by burning his redshirt playing him on special teams. He's Hell-bent on mentally breaking a 5* true freshman, and a stud athlete is going to leave because Gus has sent the message that he won't ever get meaningful playing time.
Gus may end up setting Auburn back to the Barfield days. I'm afraid he's going to lose this teams and destroy recruiting.

quote:Yup. His work ethic has been great since right after last season.
I don’t buy that. He was in Tampa during our bye week training.

Oh well... Cord is our future anyway.

Exactly, from everything that’s public, Joey has handled all of this really well so far. I can see it being too much when you do everything the right way and your HC won’t even give you a chance when the guy in front of you is floundering. Gus is putting Auburn’s future in Nix’s hands. I hope it’s the right decision.

If Nix continues to play like he has, and Gus keeps playing him, I expect to see assistants jumping ship at the end of the season. Recruiting will take a huge hit.

People forget so quickly The Clemson 5 QB fiasco. Listen, Bo is playing like arse, but Gus has committed to him for better or worse. Gus is there at practice everyday, and also knows his arse is on the line. He also knows the portal situation. He’s picking a guy and going with him. We need stability at QB. Uga went with Fromm over Fields in the same way - it may have been the wrong choice but you gotta get continuity and stability at that position.

That has to be extremely demoralizing watch the guy ahead of you shite the bed on a regular basis, and you can't get a chance.
I've personally seen what happens when a coach has a favorite regardless of his play. Great way to lose a team.

Dabo and Saban, both made changes. How'd that work out?
I've seen enough of Gus to know that he makes bad decisions.

We have no choice but to hope for this. I just don’t understand how he called Gatewood and Nix “1a and 1b” and ‘neck to neck’ throughout fall camp and then let Nix play the way that he has lately. Never mind the bullshite decision making in fall camp this really makes the race seem even more like a fraud. He’s not even giving him quality garbage time reps. Taulia, the third string QB at Bama just attempted 6 passes last game. Malik Willis got 14 his whole career here. So, Gus can choose his guy, but he can also get his backups some work. It keeps them happy, and keeps our team better prepared. Makes too much sense.

Typically, Gus only lets the backup QB come in and run the read-option in garbage time. He doesn’t try to develop the passing game at all. He never has. He never will.

I would hope he would act like Jalen Hurts and play out the full season and then decide.
That would make me a fan of his for life no matter where he plays.

(Damn - those where the days.)

play out the full season
Difference is, Hurts got to see the field for more than 1 play. Gatewood gets to see the practice field.
