Offer him a multi year deal and promote him if we fire Gus before his deal is up.

The good news from the original ITAT source is we are Freeze's 1st choice and he is Gus's. We just have to get Greene on board and the deal is done.

We are competing with UT, FSU, and Bama for Freeze. I don't see it happening

I say sign Freeze to a 3 year deal and fire Gus after next season and Freeze can be the interim for 2 years to see what he can do at Auburn as HC.

frick no

If we were on the market now would we consider Freeze? I don't want to give the Auburn powers that be an easy way to turn Freeze into our HC.

He's a great option for interim, the problem is that they'd probably make it permanent. We do not want Hugh Freeze as a permanent HC.

Not sure why you wouldn't. Freeze has ties to AU and Gus. If you have concerns about Auburn's future, why the hell would you be interested in FSU, with all of their problems (especially when your ties/familiarity are less as well)?

I believe it but I still expect Auburn to JABA it all up. It's what we do.

Hugh Freeze would be very dangerous at a school like Auburn.

He has a similar pedigree as Gus and a checkered past.

Freeze would be an upgrade over Gus.

There is zero evidence to support this claim. I want to get rid of Gus too, but just kill off the program if we think Hugh Freeze is the guy to restore our greatness.

Checkered past in what way? Off-field absolutely, but his actual on-field football performance is hard to deny. He is essentially the version of Malzahn that everyone was hopeful about when we hired him, except that he also isn't a total weirdo and is in fact extremely personable (despite how goofy he looks). Yes, they were cheating at Ole Miss like everyone else in this conference, but the general talk behind the scenes about Freeze was that he was a VERY strong salesman. Given the fact that he already has proven success in this conference and isn't a "wash-out" for any on-field related reason, you could do MUCH worse than him given our current predicament. He has the right temperament for this conference which is what most people fail to address when they look at potential coaches.

As you consider these hypothetical situations, what kind of 2019 outcome would it be that would warrant Freeze a promotion to HC and at the same time warrant Gus’ termination?

I can’t imagine one that isn’t a big stretch.

Any coordinator or position coach knows that their fate is tied to the HC. You could quote the Chizik firing and subsequent hiring of Gus, but there was a span of time there, and to be honest, whoever made that decision wasn’t thinking too clearly.

In the past we have paid insane amounts for coaches. Chip was making over a million and Steele is the third highest paid assistant in the country (2 Million a year).

Giving a three year guarantee to an OC is a lot to ask from this administration. Is Gus willing to reduce his buyout by the cost of Freeze's buyout, if so, bring him on.

I mean, he almost certainly knew about cheating at Ole Miss and is holier-than-thou but frequents hookers. That's pretty checkered in my opinion.

Hugh Freeze to us would be like LSU hiring Gus in a few years, IMO. Someone who will hold their own in the conference but probably isn't ever going to bring you huge upside or great consistency.

I'm not the moral police on Freeze. That said I see no real reason why in a nationwide coaching search we'd hone in on him unless we need a modest upside stability hire.

I was listening to 92.9 here in atlanta and they talked about all the schools going after freeze. Including Auburn, who they said needed freeze because Gus runs a failed system.

I would welcome Freeze just because he has a much more sophisticated passing tree than Gus. Also, Freeze is one of the only people I believe Gus would actually listen to. Freeze can also develop a QB. I don't see a lose in any way by bringing in Freeze.
