When it comes to positional importance on defense, it's like 50% DL, 20% LB's and 30% DB's.
Our DL seems like it will be a huge step back and that's what worries me.
Forgive the homerism and I couldn't agree with you more on percentages of importances, but I think what we have returning is going to be pretty damned good on the DL. There's not a generational Brown-type talent who's developed, but we're going to start some athletic, country-strong kids that will eat up OL's and we have some depth. I see another 15-19 ppg average for this group.
I'm more concerned about the offense and OL. I think we'll be more physical on the OL and they will evolve into a better group compared to last year. My concern is that it will take a few games, and UK is a really good football team to play out of the gate. The usual +4 with playing at home doesn't really matter this year, and they are a really experienced team.

Today should be the day we get a depth chart but from reports we pretty much know who's where.
Gus plus player interviews today as well.

I think we have some big run stoppers in the middle, but we won't get pressure there like we did with Brown, so it's going to have to come from the edges or LB/DB blitzes, imo.
I really hope Bryant, Hall, Moultry, etc can bring pressure from the end so we don't have to rely on bringing a LB or DB.

Looking at some of the other depth charts that have been released, holy hell will there be some size in the trenches. LSU DT's are both like 340 lbs. Bama has a 360lb and a 350lb OL. Arkansas had some big boys. Just absurd

It's the consensus of this thread.
I haven't seen consensus either.
With Shivers, with his speed, I think there is opportunity to take one to the house if gets the ball in open space.
But 2 issues have kept him from doing it.
1. The plays Gus calls that are 'screens' are not very well schemed or disguised very well.
2. Shivers is not a shifty style of back. Somewhat stiff, and he doesn't have great elusiveness.
Now if they have better screen plays with Morris designing them, and Shivers gets a lot more practice and comfortable catching screens, then it may become a very successful play.
We will see for sure early in the season.

Colby Wooden starting at DT? That can't be right.
They have to have mixed him and Hardy up.

Nope. That's right. I think we'll see a lot of rotation at DT, but Wooden is technically the starter.

We are going to have a starting DT that is under 270 lbs?

That caught my eye too

There was an article out a week ago about him. They mentioned he has the ability to play inside and outside on the line at his new size (268 lbs), but I find that very hard to believe he will be the first guy up inside and not just used there in more passing situations.
Who knows though. It is where he is listed.

Hardy is down to 250
Jeremiah Wright is no longer on the OL.
Jaylin Simpson gets the nod at CB

Very, very interesting.
Looks like we may have our biggest OL weight wise in a long time. Smallest DL.

Hamm looks like a warship. I’m really intrigued by it all.
Not sure we can make much of the DL. They rotate so much that another combination of guys could end up having more snaps together. Last year they created a position for Coe to “start” at so it’s somewhat meaningless in the end

Very true. Lots of combinations I can see on that DL for different scenarios and matchups for sure. I'm not discounting Wooden either, I think he will be a great player. Just everything i've ever seen on him has had him at DE and to have him listed above Newkirk was interesting. Wonder if that may have some motivation tied to it or something.
