Im also excited about the rest of the DL. Wooden should really surpise, Daquan Newkirk finally healthy and confident his achilles will hold up, plus the JC fellas, and new freshmen. Good things to be excited about.

Starting 4 will not be as strong, but 8-10 man rotation will be.

Hope springs eternal...

Everyone is supposed to in uniform Saturday. The last of the isolation issues behind.

If Gus stays out of play calling, there will be a drastic change to the offense. If Gus takes over ....mediocre. He can't seem to get it in his head that the other teams know his tendencies and the restrictions on the combinations of passing routes. ....Expand it ...they had almost a year to add a lot of wrinkles.

Reading through some good information here on the team.

Did Bo spend his time with a Quarterback Camp?

TWill bringing some free style to our boys. I did notice the social distancing taking place though.

Hearing good things about TD (4th year in a row lol) this fall as well.

TD isn't effective unless he's 100% healthy, which is an impossibility week-to-week at this level. If he has a hangnail he tends to lose his focus, blow assignments and not give full effort. I'd love to seem him turn it around or remain 100% healthy this year.

Alpine you're actually right on that. Not just mild bumps and bruises but also a missed tackle or penalty just loses focus and doesn't move on to the next snap.

2020 captains are Bo, Shivers, Big Kat, and Britt

I am really digging the Worm choice. I like that Bo is a captain. Your starting QB should always be voted team captain...if he isnt then their is something wrong. I really was hoping to see Sherwood as a Captain but I understand BKB and Britt.

Sherwood is very quiet. But will be the first person on the the team drafted after this season unless injuries or something occurs. He'll be late first early second round draftee.

So Shivers is supposed to he the pass catching back, yet in his Auburn career is has -7 yards. Yeah this makes sense.

A stat that amazes me: Shaun Shivers caught one (1) pass as a senior in high school. He has caught only six in two seasons at Auburn. They went for -6, -2, -6, 2, 3 and 2 yards, respectively.

I would figure Joiner had to be the guy that catches the most passes for a RB this year

He's not going to play much because he's inconsistent with effort and can't be counted on to carry out assignments.

(edit) I'm referring to Joiner.

Another thing, if Steele is saying that Sherwood is the best tackler he's ever coached, then he's an absolute baller and one of the best defensive players we have. I really don't think our defense will skip a beat in 2020. If we improve offensively, well...

It's the consensus of this thread.

Is it? I don’t recall a single post referencing Shivers as the primary pass catching RB, or even an option as a pass catching RB. The general consensus has been that Joiner and MAR are most people best guesses as to who will be the wheel route/pass catching type guys.

His production is not in question when he has the ball but that's about 25% of the RB role. There are fakes, pass protection, etc., that are going to be hard for a guy smaller than me in the SEC to execute. What I think we'll see is a 10-15 touches player and will be our "starter" because he's so respected by everyone in the athletic complex. Deservedly so, it sounds like. If he's Darren Sproles and can bruise a guy's sternum when he's not carrying the rock, then he'll see more time. I'm not worried about the RB room at all.

When it comes to positional importance on defense, it's like 50% DL, 20% LB's and 30% DB's.

Our DL seems like it will be a huge step back and that's what worries me.

I only remember Joiner catching wheel routes so he was already down field. Shivers was apparently 6 yards behind the LOS a few times in obvious screen pass situations. Let's hope we have better play calls for him on pass plays.

We had quite a few years at Auburn where I was pretty sure the DBs were 70% responsible for success on defense

I think good defensive coordinators like Steele are able to adjust the defense to its strengths. I’m sure we’ll notice differences but I think this group of LBs are a good match for this DL
