Bust Cat Bryant was named 1st team pre-season All SEC. Must be voting on name recognition alone.

Every pre-season list is voting on name alone. These lists are nothing more than speculation. I'll get excited when he's on the post-season all SEC team.

Except he was already a starter last year?

I’m not in the camp that thinks Big Kat goes off this year. Just explaining why some think he could have a career year despite the track record thus far.

But one thing to understand about Steele is that he doesn’t have a specific role on defense for pressure. And the last time Steele spoke he was still trying to determine where pressure would come from this season. He even mentioned Holland as an example of that.

Not to mention we haven't had a pass rush since Sensei Mud... How is he afforded more opportunity now than he was last season?

No Marlon, no Brown. We know Steele will generate sacks, pressures, and QB hits. We don’t know from where. And the absence of those guys opens the opportunity for Bryant to take some of those pressures. Opportunity is not a guarantee but he has the best chance of his career this season and I’m betting that’s why people assume, by default, he’ll reach that potential.

I think he’ll generate better stats by absence of the players around him that left but I’m not sure he reaches an all-SEC level

That does not make any sense at all. Losing Brown would make it more difficult for Bryant to get more pressure. Brown required a double team from the C/G most of the game, so that left the ends usually in one on one situations. Losing that player that requires a double team means more players free to double team the best player now.

Besides the Big Kat preseason pick, the other surprise to me was them picking Brodarius Hamm 2nd team and he hasn't played a down yet.

Where did they get their info that influenced them to put him 2nd? Did the SEC lose a ton of OL last year?

hmmm....I like it. I will say Kat ends up with 5.5 sacks, and over a 12 hurries.

Again, I’m just explaining the thought process. I don’t agree with it either

But it’s common

No new Covid positives. 8 guys still out, including some OL. All expected to be available Tuesday.

Depth chart to be released Tuesday

I think even of those 8, almost all if not all 8 were asymptomatic. I think we should be okay from that standpoint, if nothing else changes. Obviously be as cautious as we can with them like we are doing, but I think we will be good come gameday.

Not even sure they’re all Covid related, honestly. I don’t know if that’s Covid + other injuries

I watched the 2019 IB yesterday and either didn't realize it or forgot that Big Kat's pass rush was the reason Jones threw that 100 yard pick six.

Good point. I remember that too.

As far as this year, Kat, if he can use that rush a little better inside he can disrupt the QB even more, or even get some sacks.

He reminds me what was happening to a Steelers DE/OLB Dupree. He was criticized the same way Big Kat is, in that if he can't get the QB on speed, he tended to simply get pushed outside w little chance of getting pressure on the QB. But Last year and he is doing it again this year, he has improved his technique, gotten stronger and better w getting around OT and TEs.

I am hoping Big Kat improves similarly. But of ofc Dupree also has Pro Bowl TJ Watt on the other side so there is that to consider.

Sources around the program indicate that BKB has really improved on his leverage and ability to bend. This should definitely help him finish on these plays. Can't wait to see.

Hearing good things about TD (4th year in a row lol) this fall as well. Can he finally take that next step>? Between BKB, T.D., and Derek Hall I think at least one will be that speed rush guy we have been missing. I am banking on it being BKB

Let’s just hope that next step isn’t offsides... or five yards upfield leaving a gaping hole.
