I was not aware if we did.

Is that how we got them to sub at wrong time?

Yep. At X.

Gus said it was Larry Porter's call.

Earned some, not all, of the 49 million tonight.

No need for a raise.
Good to win a big game.

No extension, no raise. I loved that we won the game, but I sure as heck am not going to overreact.

Whinny Nick from Ala board: LINK
quote:

“I really feel it was an unfair play at the end of the game,” Saban said. “They substituted a punter as a wide receiver, so we put the punt team in. And then when the quarterback was still in there, we tried to put the defense back in. I thought they should’ve given us a little more time to substitute and get Waddle out as a returner. So, that was very disappointing.

“We’re responsible for that as coaches, but it was a very unusual circumstance, to say the least. And I think sometimes when you have those, they should be viewed that way.”

And he's getting some heat.

Did Gus just create another rule change? No shenanigans on 4th down

Gus explained the last series. His intention was to eliminate the possibility of a punt return with that fricking returner. By putting our offense back on the field on 4th down, it would keep waddle off the field. Then he was going to have Nix kick it while there was no returner back there. Smart move. But he caught Alabama since they did not know what to do and that was that

It was the plan not to let Waddle beat us on a return...

Seriously?

No.

They successfully subbed out their standard package for punt returns; however when they saw Bo still at QB they rushed to make accommodations, but couldn't get Waddle's (the 12th man's) attention in time. According to NS on a post game interview from CBS B'ham. So they got their substitutions but flubbed on readjustments.

Looked to me like he was going to motion the punter over.

If you watch the play again, the punter starts to motion behind Nix when the flag is thrown
