Wanted to get some discussion about the team moving forward to next year. None of this depth chart includes the 2020 recruiting class.

Offense:

Seniors-
Prince Tega Wanogho
Marquell Harrell
Mike Horton
Jack Driscoll
Kam Martin
Spencer Nigh
Jay Jay Wilson
Kaleb Kim
Sal Canella
Bailey Sharp

Draft-
I don't expect anyone to declare

2020 Offense-

QB- Bo Nix (So)
RB- Boobie Whitlow (R-Jr), DJ Williams (So), Shaun Shivers (Jr)
HB/TE- John Shenker (R-Jr)
WR- Seth Williams (Jr), Anthony Schwartz (Jr)
WR- Eli Stove (Sr), Matthew Hill (R-So), Shedrick Jackson (Jr)
LT- Alec Jackson (R-Jr)
LG- Tashawn Manning (R-Jr)
C- Nick Brahms (R-Jr)
RG- Jalil Irvin (R-Jr)
RT- Brodarius Hamm (R-Jr)

Early Analysis-
This offense is losing the entire offensive line, minus Center. There's a couple JUCO transfers committed which will help the transition, but this OL is going to struggle. It's nice that Auburns schedule opens up pretty easily in the first 5 games, until Georgia (with a new QB), so they will have some time to figure out rapport and lineups.
Bo Nix as a Sophomore will have to improve his consistency throwing the football. He has plenty of receivers and running backs to make plays. Needs to deliver the ball more effectively and efficiently.

Defense:

Seniors-
Derrick Brown
Marlon Davidson
Daniel Thomas
Jeremiah Dinson
Javaris Davis

Draft-
Noah Igbinoghene (Jr: Elite Corner, I think he declares)
Nick Coe (R-SR: High potential but needs more consistency, stays)
KJ Britt (SR: High potential but only one year of film, stays)

2020 Defense-

DE- Nick Coe (R-Sr)
NT- Tyrone Truesdell (Sr), Coynis Miller (Jr)
DE- Derrick Hall (So)
BUCK- Big Cat Bryant (Sr), TD Moultry (Sr)
LB- KJ Britt (Sr), Chandler Wooten (R-Sr)
LB- Owen Pappoe (So), Zakoby McClain (Jr)
CB- Roger McCreary (Jr)
SS- Jamien Sherwood (Jr)
FS- Smoke Monday (Jr)
CB- Christian Tutt (Jr)

Early Analysis-
Obviously losing Brown and Davidson are HUGE to the overall defense. Both 1st round picks, with Brown being a generational player. Big losses to the DL but they return a lot of talent. I think we see more of a rotational line next year (like we saw in 2016/2017).
A lot of players coming back and key players getting another year of experience. The secondary will need most help with Davis and Dinson graduating, and the potential of Igbonoghene leaving early. Holding onto Wesley McGriff and Marcus Woodson will help development.

Special Teams:

K- Anders Carlson (R-Jr)
P- Aaron Siposs (Sr)
LS- Bill Taylor (R-Jr)
PR- Christian Tutt (Jr)
KR- Shaun Shivers (Jr)

Early Analysis-
Carlsen had a great Iron Bowl and the hope can only be that he keeps that confidence into next year. Would like to see him develop more as a Kickoff specialist too. I think he struggled there this year.
Siposs has been great, cant complain at all about his performance thus far.
Id like to see Anthony Schwartz more on kickoff return. Christian Tutt needs to hold onto the football if hes going to stay at PR.

I’d be surprised if he’s here next season.

We also have Newkirk coming back on the DL if he can stay healthy.

Good post,

We have the top 2 JUCO OTs committed. Those guys could and should start moving Hamm and Jackson inside with Brahms. Hamm is going to be good. Staff also likes Justin Osborne and Keondre Jones two OGs we signed last year. With the 3 OTs coming in we have bodies.

At Hback next year could actually be the year we put an athlete back there and use them as a weapon. But likely Gus will use a walk-on fullback or someone similar to Nigh.

WR could become an issue if we have any attrition and injuries. I know the staff really likes Shedrick Jackson maybe he can be injury free and give us a 1-2 punch with Seth. HOpe Stove gets more touches.

At RB I don't know how you can keep Tank off the field. He's special.

Defense will be fine need one interior guy to step up and have a big year like Dontavius Russel did.

No way he breaks into our back field and I think you know how that is going to go with the fans.

Whitlow
DJ
Joiner

Not sure a true freshman will gain the confidence in the coaching staff and be a big contributor with that list. Not saying he will redshirt but thats a tough egg to break into.

Gus tends to play the HB that is the most physical. That is usually the big difference. Nigh has done well there this year

On defense I fully expect Hall to be a beast next year along with McClain at LB

Joiner should be used there next year,. Nigh had a very good season this year.

Whys that? He clearly has a role with us, and we are one of the few offenses that can utilize someone with his size limitations. Hes not going anywhere else to be a traditional RB, unless is FCS.

I really liked the opening series with both Joiner and Whitlow in the backfield. I'm not sure why we don't utilize this more often going forward. It gives us three legit running threats (Nix, Whitlow, Joiner), two legit WRs (Whitlow and Joiner), and one legit passing threat.

Shivers got plenty of opportunity between Samford and Bama and he also became a one play legend that will be on highlights films for the next 50 years. He’s staying.

Joiner may be a transfer portal casualty though...

I think you might see one or two true freshman WRs start next season

Was actually pretty smart. We put Joiner in a few series earlier. Obviously it was going to be the wheel route. Well, Bo looked for it but the Bama defense covered it well. They obviously knew when 22 goes it, its more than likely going to be the wheel route

A few series later, he put Joiner in and ran the wheel route left. The entire defense ran left with Joiner but Bo gave the ball to Whitlow to the right and it went for 20 yards. Sometimes a coach can learn more about a play when it does not work than he can when it does.

These dudes need a good bowl game. Some shine of this group lost its luster after the IB.

Hokanson shared a play on twitter though where Derrick Brown batted the ball down late in the game. What was missed was that Dinson jumped the route and stood ready to house the interception if he could cleanly catch it.

First on Shivers.

I agree. Good chance Shivers is gone. If you read his mom's post on another message board, she is not happy with his playing time.
And remember, even though he scored the winning TD against Alabama, it was his ONLY carry of the game.

Add Jaren Handy to the DT rotation. He played a little this year and did well at times.

Also had Anthony-Richards to the RB dilemma. If he is healthy, there were always good reports about his running ability.

I agree with Lanier on the backfield. Whitlow and DJ lock that down I think. We’re getting back to a healthy logjam there with Mark-Antony Richards healthy next season and Tank on the roster.

I like Boobee and he’s pretty consistent for us statistically.

2018: 150 attempts, 5.2 YPC, 960 yards from scrimmage and 9 TDs
2019: 147 attempts, 5 YPC, 845 yards from scrimmage, 8 TDs

He’s an injury risk at this point and he’s ideally part of a two back rotation

Richards is probably a better option for how Joiner is currently being used. I don’t know if Joiner transfers or not because I’ve heard he’s not a “football is my life” kind of guy to begin with.

I saw that. Can you imagine if Dinson snagged that for a pick 6?

Would’ve been epic. I’m tired of Bama fans putting their losses on the kickers when they have been a problem for a decade now.

I saw him jump it in real time and watching the replay I realized he was mad Brown batted down the ball because he knew he had jumped it.

Yep he jumped up and down like he knew he had it. It was a great read on the play.

I posted on another thread that Brodarius is moving to RT and and Troxell to LT. Hopefully that knee can finally stay solid.

I think Gus, maybe too much at times, likes to set plays up. He probably ran the wheel route with the idea to use it as a decoy later.
