Arnett would be the first call I make.

If somehow Kelly got the DC job then . Zac deserves a shot before him.

I think Kelly will be co-DC, or Associate Defensive Coordinator, like he was at Bama. I don’t see us giving him full reins after how terrible Colorado’s defense was.

I wanted him last year. It sounded like he was close to being hired up until Leach passed away.

Someone has to say it

Firing your OC and DC after your first year isn’t a great sign

It felt like Freeze was rushed into hiring those two imo

Saban essentially did it his first year. Applewhite left, McElwain came in. Steele was demoted, Kirby Smart took over. Prime is doing it now. Sometimes it just takes time and some trial and error to get the right pieces in the right places. We’ve got some potential stars as position coaches, we just need the right coordinators.

Reports are Monty knew he was out for like a month. No beef or anything, but him and Freeze just see the game different.

The Roberts rumors are that he's basically just hard to get along with.

I think they we're both on short contracts though, so they we're never long term plans. More just guys to help set a foundation going forward. Neither are bad coaches, just maybe not the right fight long term.

Let’s not use him as an example yet

Why not?

Sometimes, even in business, the wrong hire is made.

The real mistake? Convincing yourself the hire will work itself out.

I think Roberts is 3 years too, but not fully guaranteed.

LINK
quote:

Every assistant coach and coordinator has a 100% buyout, but with the exception of Montgomery, all of them have the duty to mitigate, which means they must reasonably look for another job if their contract is terminated prematurely without cause. What Auburn owes them will be the rest of the compensation on their contract minus whatever their compensation is at their new job.

ETA: I'm reading it wrong. All of them have the mitigation clause, except Montgomery. From 247, worded better:
quote:

Every assistant coach’s contract features a 100 percent buyout owed by Auburn if they are fired before the conclusion of their deal. Every contract features a mitigation clause — meaning Auburn’s buyout figure will be decreased by the compensation of the coach’s next job — with the exception of offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery, who would be owed the full amount of his remaining contract by Auburn if terminated.

Why not?

Because Deion hasn’t proven himself to be a high level coach yet? Kinda surprised I would have to explain that.

Look we don’t have to get all defensive when we criticize the coach. It’s definitely not ideal and it’s not a great sign to be firing people year 1. Doesn’t mean Freeze won’t be a great coach or anything but it is what it is.
