It will not matter if the OL talent is arkie level. Chad’s O wasn’t much the last couple of years.

If Chad’s offense is Tajh Boyd/Sammy Watkins/DeAndre Hopkins/Dwayne Allen/Andre Ellington levels, I’m good with it. As should you be.

Ill call bullshite on this.

Seriously,

Gus calling plays one year
Gus not calling one year.
Gus in control one year
Gus handing over total control one year.

Gus is full of shite.

I work with a sensible Arkansas grad. From what he has said, this new coach is worrisome.

What is it with this take? Why are you and other folks on this site listening to Arkansas fans on how they feel about Chad Morris as a head coach?

Success as a head coach does not translate to success as a coordinator and vice versa. Matt Luke is a good recent example.

Considering the bunk CGM has spewed over the years in regard to play calling I’m indifferent toward this hire. I fully expect the same dosage of ineptness on offense that we’ve experience since moving away from DT QBs and that this will be the last year of misery AU must endure of his tenure.

So Gus walked in and laid his playbook down on Chad's desk and said you are in full control of this playbook?

The one difference that I am looking at differently, that might show an improvement in our offense is the fact that this is the FIRST OC, unlike all the other hires Gus made, that has the experience, the resume, and schemes that only GUs would defer too, bc he has shown his knowledge is somewhat different than GUs' and more diverse.

And Gus sees the stats he has produced over the last 5-6 year.
Gus' 'I will call the plays' offense he ran last year actually ended up a little worse than the year before. His offense went from 19th in Offensive SP+ in 2018 to 34th in 2019.
Although scoring went up a little more than 2 pts a game in 2019, which is not that great, it was better becuase of the AU defense that created turnovers and created its own points.

So i have a sliver of hope...better than what I saw through all the other OCs that GUs hired since 2013.

He said their QBs regressed under him very noticeably.

Not like Gus has really done much with our QBs either tho.

Again, do you think a head coach has the same capacity to focus on improving QB play that a true OC or QB coach does? I'm not buying it.

I was just passing on information I thought pertained to the topic.

Yep. Lack of talent and the fact that the offense Morris runs did not translate to the roster Morris inherited.

All anyone needs to do is look what happened to us in 2012. We had recruited for the spread since like 07. Changing to a pro style offense in 2012 only produced our worst season in our entire history of playing football. Likewise Arkansas had recruited for the Wisconsin type offense since Bobby P left. That type of player just does not mesh with the style of player needed for the Chad Morris offense.

Anyone who thinks Morris will be a terrible OC because he was a terrible HC at Arkansas (somewhere that has not won a single SEC Championship since joining the conference in the early 90s) has not paid very much attention. It's not AT ALL uncommon for someone to be an elite coordinator while being a total failure as HC... take Kevin Steele for example. He was an absolute atrocity as HC in Baylor and is now still one of the better DCs in football

Everybody laughed at us when we hired Steele. LSU fans were crowing about how they traded Steele for dameyune craig..........and what a one sided trade they had made.

Gus Malzahn: Giving up play-calling at Auburn was ‘a mistake’

quote:

“Through the years, you get advice and all of that,” Malzahn said Thursday at SEC Media Days. “And, of course, I made a mistake.”

quote:

“When I decided to go back and call plays, that’s really who I am,” Malzahn said. “I’m an offensive guy. That’s what got me where I’m at…. When (Lindsey) left, just the reality is what it is now. Just decided to getting back to being me and call plays. It’s been a very refreshing thing.”

He’s all over the place. This unfortunately feels like it might be Chip/Gus/2018 again.
