The PTB are smarter than that(I say that begrudgingly).

If this partnership/marriage fails, Morris will not get the blame or the firing....

...This one is ALL on Gus. I feel it's his last stand.

Smart move by Gus. If the O sucks again he can blame it on Chad to the PTB perhaps buying him another year if he promises to take back the reigns and fix it.

Has his DC

No excuses. I think this is a "build toward 2021" thing, but he needs to finish with 9 wins this season or the next 18 months are going to be just boring and miserable as he slogs to his departure.

Could be...

Or it could be, he has a 'more experienced' QB, more depth at RB, stable WR corp w/ some good ones coming in.

Therefore, it could be not 18 months but just 12 months for Gus to show and tell!
