You’re not going to see it either. I’m still not seeing the great post scoring from Kessler and Cardwell just because they’re big. I’d much rather have Jalyn out there than both of Kessler and Cardwell. I definitely don’t want Kessler picking up cheap fouls trying to guard a smaller guy.

Go to bed, your thread is terrible. Try again tomorrow…

On defense, yeah he’s usually there.
But our offense dies, most do.
How exactly do you plan for our offense to get better with Cardwell and Kessler on the court at the same time?
Cardwell is horrible offensively. It’s either a dunk or nothing.

When has Cardwell or Kessler for that matter done anything in the post that hasn’t been created by someone else?
You need to go back and watch some Kessler highlights from this season.
He has a badass drop step/turnaround, and if you cut that off, he will duck under you for an easy basket.

f our guards aren’t hot and the other team has big guards playing well, I see the bigs lineup as a means to a win. Pound it low and dominate the paint. It’s not sexy, but I don’t see anyone stopping it.
First of all almost at the end of the season u don’t all of sudden change your player substitution especially in the middle.
Second, Cardwell if he was in there w Kessler would have already fouled out. He fouls a lot and really doesn’t know how not to use his body when trying to block shots.
Third, I don’t see the answer to guard play is to add another center in the mix.

Don’t get me wrong; I like Cardwell, but Kessler is a first round NBA draft pick.
Cardwell is a minutes guy. He knows his role. He’s a glue guy. Good in the locker room. Getting Kessler some rest and keeping Kessler out of foul trouble is Cardwell’s role.
Jaylin Williams and Zep Jasper can expand their roles as far as scoring.

I hate to pile on but did you really say that the solution to our offensive trouble was to bring in Cardwell? Let that marinate a minute or two and get back to me
Posted on 2/24/22 at 8:14 am to marshallcotiger
Yea man, you didn't think this through.
We struggle mightily shooting the basketball and your solution is to bring on two extremely offensively limited bigs to clog the paint and take away the ability of the guards to penetrate which is the only way they (the bigs) score points in the first place?
I get frustrated with our offense too but this is literally the worst thing we could do.

Height. Everyone is focusing on Auburn, when you should be focusing on what it forces the opposition to do.
If Cardwell, Jabari, and Kessler are all in it creates a matchup nightmare. One of them will undoubtedly have a much smaller player on them. Cardwell is only good for dunks by himself, but with Kessler he likely forces the opposition to put their big guy on Cardwell due to strength which would put a much smaller guy on Kessler. Or a bench player that sucks. You work the opposition down low, force double teams. That in turn opens up the outside for more wide open shots for your guards.
Everyone is only considering the negative situation it creates for auburn, when in turn it creates bigger issues for the opposition.
Again, I’m not saying it’s the new offense. I’m saying change it up for 5-6 mins a game when our outside shooting is bad.
ETA: I don’t see this as being so different than a team like the San Antonio spurs that had Duncan (Kessler), old David Robinson (Cardwell), and generally some smaller guards.

Yeah but the bigger issue here is that Kessler and Cardwell do not even almost equal Duncan and Robinson. Not even proportionally translated to a college scale.

They’re both tall, duh. Skill sets are irrelevant to OP.

We running the wishbone next year? I mean we have some pretty good backs.

Really can't see any reason you'd play Cardwell and Kessler on the floor with the other big weapons we have like Jabri, Jaylin and to a lesser extent Allen and Cambridge. You have better overall defense some threat of a 3 and more athletic overall. Kessler is having a great season and it is over shadowing that Cardwell has improved by leaps and bounds. They are a perfect 5 one, two punch.

Yeah the irony of comparing it to the Duncan and Robinson Spurs is that Jabari and Kessler is actually way more similar to that as a matchup nightmare.

If I am not mistaken Cardwell is 2nd in the SEC in BPG.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Cardwell would start and play 30+ minutes per game for a majority of D-1 schools.

The game has changed since 2019 when Virginia won?
How’d auburn offense look tonight when Kessler disappeared?
Kessler is a fantastic player, auburns problem is we don’t have anyone else other than Cardwell that is a front court player. You aren’t winning shite with 5 backcourt players. Kessler loves to play around the arc and Jabari prefers the arc area also.
ETA: hey ‘it’s worked all season let’s not change anything’ guys, how’s that working out for us? Anytime Auburn plays a decent team away now we can’t score shite? But hey, let’s not attempt anything new because luckily we’ll play all home games in both the SeC and ncaa tournament

Dylan Cardwell is not going to solve any offensive problems. I’m still not sure what you’ve seen from him to think he has any offensive game at all.
ETA: If you want to continue pushing this thing then atleast attack the fact that we got destroyed on the boards. That would make a ton more sense.
