There needs to be a spending cap to keep parity.
Just like when they capped the number of football schollys at 85. Before that programs like bama under bear had like 150 players on scholly to keep them from going to other schools.

We cant have it both ways Leeman. We were crowing like mofos the last two years when Preacher Hugh was buying up all the talent. Now that the chickens have come to roost, we have to take our lumps and try to rebuild.

From what i've gathered so far from this offseason, we need to give our players a blank check but at the same time not overpay for lack of production.

Former players are calling out some of the portal insanity.

You have to have generational talent to lose generational talent

I don't think AU has the resources (deep pocket boosters) to compete with the big boys especially the oil money guys of Texas, TAM and Texas Tech. We got Yellowfellow and only $30 million to spend. Even bama has various revenue sources.

That explains Kerryon’s Tweet.

Don't even care. I was not impressed at all with the effort he put forth. There were a lot of catches that he should have made.
Yeah, I’d be curious to see a breakdown of his production accounting for routes he stopped running early, fumbles, and drops (at least one of which resulted in an interception).
On measurables and the ability to make circus catches I can see why NFL scouts love him, but in terms of production that makes Auburn win now it’s more complicated, especially considering how much revenue sharing money he’s taking up.

At this point, what we have got to realize is that the college football that we grew up in and loved, is gone.
Gone are the days of signing guys that you knew were going to stick around for 3-4 years.
Gone are getting to know these players- celebrating their successes and empathizing with their failures.
Gone is the romanticism of amateur sports and the term “student athlete”, of crisp fall days and letterman’s jackets.
What we are left with is a pro sports economic model where every player is an unrestricted free agent, able to go to the highest bidder, all wrapped in a familiar package.
It looks the same. The names are the same, but the sport is completely different.

Can still have the romanticism and sticking with guys and their careers if they institute 2 way contracts or bring back the sit-out-a-year transfer rules.

Per sources, Coleman’s NIL offer from Auburn was well north of $2 million. While Auburn personnel felt optimistic about the conversations, there was a sense his agent preferred he end up elsewhere. Ultimately, Coleman needed to feel comfortable with the new coaching staff and the projected starting quarterback, and that didn’t happen.
A to Z is reporting his agent his asking $2.5M. LINK
His agent also represents Micah Parsons, who the Cowboys thought they had a deal locked in place after Jones and Parsons and had an agreement. Parsons ended up asking for more and asked for a Trade and got the highest non-QB contract in the NFL.
ETA: Although the NFL does have the salary cap and making it work for Parsons may have been tough.

Next we will be hearing Deuce is leaving and people will start jumping out of windows
If the only way we can bring Brown is losing Coleman and deuce then tell him to bring a WR with him. No coach that wants to keep their job listens to a 20 yo make roster decisions. Id still choose Brown and the USF wr over deuce and Coleman anyways. It looks BAAADDD from the outside but Ill bet money Brown will be wayyyy more efficient than DK even if he finds a starting spot

I think that the Powers that Be in the NCAA are going to have to adopt a contract structure like this- 1 year, 2 year, 3 year deals with clauses for leaving early, maybe they’re incentive based.
I like the idea of sitting out a year for transferring. I did it. It was hard not being able to play and contribute. Imagine being able to practice, outperforming the other players at your position, but you can’t suit up on game day. In the end, it was the best thing that could have happened to me, but it was hard.
Sitting a year really makes everyone think twice. The player can’t play for a year. The school will pay a player who can’t contribute for a year.

I have no idea what wording is put on the contracts but Auburn should definitely put something in like if you leave at the end of the season 1/2 of what you were paid you have to pay back. There are some smart lawyers out there where you can pay premium for players and if you invest in them and their development then if they bolt pay it back. Only way I see this current model remotely working.
The NCAA isn’t gonna do shite to regulate anything. They are terrified their cash cow is gonna disappear and the institutions figure out how to regulate themselves so the inmates are running the asylum currently. Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Pavia back at Vandy next season.

I remember saying NIL will ruin college football as we know it on the rant before it was enacted. I was blasted for not thinking players should be paid. That wasn’t my argument at all. I just made the statement NIL, and it has become so much more worse than just NIL, will ruin college football as we know it.
It is doing just that. I will most likely get bored with CFB as I did pro football. Losing the amateur angle, and love and loyalty to your university will take away some of the important aspects that draw me to it. It sucks because CFB has been one of the greatest things I have enjoyed through the years of my life. The NCAA and schools sitting on their hands was a huge misstep.

There is more stability in professional sports than there is in college athletics. This is going to happen every single year. I wasn’t the starter I’m leaving. I want more money or I’m leaving. My position coach is gone so I’m leaving. Look, Cam made some amazing catches. He also dropped a lot of passes and struggled to get open. These kids having agents is insane. Agents want where the money is. Until there is a salary cap on college sports, it’s only going to get worse. Or rules like you can only transfer once. Or you have to stay 2-3 seasons before you are eligible for the portal.
