You have PTB and AD that just don’t know football. They think they do I’m sure.
They are dead wrong.
They are dead wrong.

He said we had our recruiting and scouting infrastructure and informational database ripped out from under us late in the game of hiring Golesh

Yeah, I think Stein would have been a better hire for us. I like his moxy and their play calling.

Idk, not gonna be a prisoner of the moment but he has impressed thus far

Elite upstart OC/DC from a top program is still the highest-upside HC-hire demographic. But Auburn decision makers are too chicken-shite to make that gamble.

Kensucky was serious and outbid Auburn for 3 Olinemen in the portal. Those 3 OL would be starting for Auburn, and you’d be talking about what a great hire Drago was right now. Auburn better get serious or continue being left with the leftovers.

Seems like the most sure fire winning move now is just to hire whoever is coaching James Madison. Don’t look and see who their coach is right now lol

Chesney was my pick if we went with a defensive head coach, he's done an impressive job turning them around quickly.
Stein was who I liked if we went offensive guy, just love the Oregon balanced type offense. His attitude and moxy I also like.
I was fine with Golesh and Sumrall, I just didn't think they had as much pure upside if things went right, but higher floors.
As 94 said, it's kinda prisoner of the moment stuff, but Stein has been damn impressive so far.

Yep, this is where most of the top coaches over the last couple decades have come from. Hence I was a fan of going after Stein.
And agreed on our decision makers being too chicken shite to take chance on them, unless it's someone like Gus they already were good ole boys with. Hence we get 8 win head coaches from non p4 conferences, and results that make sense based on that.

Yes, but Stein made a calculated play and saved money by going with Minchey at QB who had never even been a starter prior to this season. He was ND's backup his entire time there. That's part of the reason why Kentucky had money to outbid everyone on the OL. And Stein is clearly a demon with QB's (coached Nix, Gabriel, and Dante Moore at Oregon) so he was able to evaluate and pick the right guy and he didn't need to pay $3M+ to get him.
And that's been the difference between Golesh and Stein. Golesh paid a huge premium to bring his QB with him and didn't even properly evaluate whether he was good enough to warrant the price tag, and subsequently he chose to try to find "value" at OL. Nobody at Auburn told Golesh to plug his USF linemen into the SEC. He obviously had the money to do what Kentucky did, he just made the wrong choice.

No doubt. Kentucky spends way less than us on NIL overall based on the numbers I've seen, but they certainly seem to have spent it in much smarter fashion. It all starts with the lines, and we did a shite job on that.

I just don't see any difference between Golesh and Freeze. I hope I am wrong, but poor roster management doesn't seem to get better. And our HS recruiting isn't great. There is no answer at OL or QB for next year. I don't want to wait 3 years if he isn't making moves.

So far I agree 100%, and for me it's mainly due to play calling. It's basically late stage Gus 2.0, and it's making me be further and further out on Golesh as the season goes along. Oline and QB are by far our biggest issues to me, but play calling is right behind.
If he doesn't show major improvement next year we need to cut bait. Next year will probably be one of the easier SEC slates we will have for a while, so if he can't get it done next year then he won't ever.

There are more than 1 first year coaches this year that look functional. There is no reason to wait 3 years.

We literally didn't have the players. Coaching can only do so much

Who is responsible to get the players?
Posted on 10/11/26 at 9:35 am to metafour
Minchey was committed to Nebraska and Kentucky came in and outbid them for him. He makes between $2 and $3m this year. The OT makes $2m.
