No he didn't. Barstool Sports and $1,000,000 did

I listened to that episode this summer, good stuff. Any Auburn fan who wants Freeze should give it a listen.

aggregate stats can be misleading my friend. look at where baylor was when he got there and look at his performance by year.

But why are people high on Rhule? He was 19-20 (.487) at Baylor and apparently his NFL career is not going well. What am I missing?
He was 1-11 his first season and 11-1 in his third.

Similar to his trajectory at Temple. Once he got his players in he flourished. Unfortunately it led him to bigger jobs each time, so we don’t know if he could sustain it.

But assuming we can’t persuade Aranda to leave BU, he’s clearly our best option amongst established P5 HCs who we could realistically hire.

At this point, I don't even really care if it's sustained. It just needs to be pointed in the right direction.

This thing has been trending downward since December of 2017. It was slow at first but has been put into warp speed since the 2nd half of last season. Rhule has a proven track record of being able to turn around programs and get them trending in the right direction. The situation he walked into at Baylor was about as bad as it could get without being SMU death penalty status.

I said Mike Elko in my prior list. He has Duke 3-0. The head to play Kansas and Lance Liepold they are also 3-0.

Winner gets the Auburn job? Lol.

Just kidding kinda.

Who would be a big splash hire right now?

Why does it need to be a splash?

I'd rather good fit over flashy name.

If Deion isn't there, does any of that happen? Does JSU get several 4* players? Does JSU make headlines the way it currently is?

There's no question that Deion has created hype around that program in a way it's never experienced before and he would undoubtedly bring some hype. He's not my #1 overall but he's up there for the "realistic" hires IMO.

Agreed.

I don't know who would be a good fit culturally but I don't see a "splash" working out well. I mean Urban would be a "spalsh" but may not be the splash we want (also don't think he would come). We need someone who can compete and hire recruiters...

With the way we have fallen behind in recruiting and enticing good transfer portal guys, a splash hire is definitely needed.

Urban Meyer is going to coach somewhere again soon. Might as well be Auburn.

I just looked at Baylor's recruiting during the time he was HC and he only finished under 30th in recruiting one year. What about Rhule would make anyone think his recruiting would be better than Harsin? I don't see Rhule being anywhere close to an answer for us.

Baylor is also a Baptist school that was coming out of a rape coverup scandal. The public image of Baylor wasn't exactly spectacular then.

I guarantee you Urban doesn't want to go against Saban head to head in state. He wants to be the big fish in a small pond. It's why he failed so spectacularly in the NFL.

And a guy who's a good fit can easily recruit the transfer portal.

Why do you think so many QBs transferred to OU when Riley was there? It wasn't because he was a splash hire.

Urban isn't up to the challenge of rebuilding Auburn. If Freeze has too many off field issues in the past for a lot of Auburn people, imagine Meyer. Discipline? Non existent.

I can't imagine Urban coming here... having to play Bama and GA every year? If he goes to a program he'll want to go somewhere the competition isn't quite that brutal.

Urban has pretty much owned Saban on the field.

Riley took over a program that was rolling, and he was the OC that was putting up huge numbers passing.

Just looked also... have to put the recruiting in context - he recruited at or above the level Baylor has before or since and did it while the program was surrounded by controversy.
